A Navy Grandmother Just Told Trump He Should Be Ashamed Of Himself
She wasn’t the only one who stood up to him last week
Good morning, and thanks so much for being here. Today’s edition is about people who fought back, even though they knew it might cost them something.
Before we jump in, hit the ❤️ like button and restack this. That’s how this edition punches a hole through the MAGA propaganda machine.

Nevada Beat Them
Part of Nevada Secretary of State Cisco Aguilar’s job is keeping the personal data of voters safe.
Harmeet Dhillon runs the Civil Rights Division at the DOJ—an office that exists to protect people’s right to vote. In August 2025, she demanded Nevada hand over every voter’s birthdate, address, and driver’s license number or last four of their Social Security number.
Trump’s own lawyers later put it in writing: running those names past Homeland Security would give the department updated information on where to find people.
The state asked for time to review state law to see if it was even legal to hand over the information. The DOJ never wrote back, they just sued Nevada in December instead.
On Friday, Judge Anne Traum threw the case out. The law the DOJ leaned on was written in 1960 to stop Southern officials from destroying Black citizens’ registration papers, and Traum ruled it covers records handed to a state—not a list the state builds itself.
She also found the department never gave a reason for wanting it in the first place: no facts, no allegation that anything was wrong with Nevada’s voter rolls at all. Traum wrote that the government had provided “no basis—none,” borrowing the phrase from a Massachusetts court that had already thrown out one of these cases.
That’s twenty-two straight losses in federal court for the Trump regime’s scheme to grab your private voter data.
They just aren’t getting it.
Trump’s Own Judge Just Ran Out His Clock
Michigan fought the same demand for voter rolls as Nevada—the DOJ lost there in June. Last week, the regime asked the full appeals court to take another look—most of them said no.
Judge Eric Murphy was put on the bench by Trump in 2019. He wrote why he voted against it. He admitted he likely would’ve sided with the DOJ if they had sought individual records instead of blanket requests, and even told them how to fix their paperwork. But nobody at the DOJ asked for emergency help, and nobody took it to the Supreme Court. So even a win now would just restart the case from the bottom.
That’s years of work, and the election is 78 days away. Judge Murphy did the math and said he can’t see how they get there in time.
They Beat Him 24 To 1
Danielle Ray spent a year at city council meetings in Louisville, representing her group No Data Center 502. Her goal was simple—no data centers in the area.
Just as a refresher, data centers are warehouses full of computers that run on your water and power. Just one of them could use millions of gallons of water a year and could pull as much electricity as a small city. Everybody else on that grid usually ends up paying for it in more ways than one.
Trump has been clearing the way for data centers since last summer, when he signed an order telling his agencies to fast-track them. So the industry went looking for towns with no rules written yet, and Louisville was one of them. The city’s planning commission had waved through a million and a half square feet with almost no public input.
So Councilwoman Jennifer Chappell penned a bill to freeze new data centers until the city caught up with their impact on the community. It sat there for eleven months as Ray and her neighbors kept showing up, while thousands more voiced their concerns in writing.
Then Dermody Properties tried to beat the clock, filing on a Monday to convert an empty warehouse to a data center, just three days before the vote. On Thursday night, the council voted 24 to 1 to freeze new data centers for six months. They shut Dermody’s move down with it.
Ray called it a step in the right direction, but made it clear—she’s not finished yet.
She Told Trump To Be Ashamed Of Himself
Karen Bramlett didn’t want to give her grandson’s name, out of fear the Navy would retaliate against him for it. She gave them her own. He joined the Navy two years ago—it was his dream.
He’s now serving on the USS Abraham Lincoln, an aircraft carrier that left San Diego in November 2025 and got sent to take part in Trump’s war with Iran. It’s been more than 260 days, and he still isn’t home. He tells his grandmother he’s fine, but also mentions how he’s depressed and can’t wait for it to be over. She said his dreams of serving have been shattered.
On Friday, a reporter asked Trump whether these families were worried. “No they’re not,” he said.
Bramlett answered him. “Donald Trump needs to be ashamed of himself to let them suffer the way they’re doing,” she said. “And this is the thanks they get?”
Nicole Conrad hasn’t seen her son’s face in seven months. She voted for Trump and said she’s done with defending him. “He put our nose in a war that we shouldn’t be in,” she said.
All military families face the same harsh reality. If you speak out, whoever is serving might face fierce blowback over it. Eleven days ago, two hundred family members packed a hall at San Diego’s naval base anyway.
The man Trump put in charge of the Navy, Acting Secretary Hung Cao, sat down in front of them with two admirals. One woman stood up crying, as her husband messaged her just that morning saying he hopes he doesn’t wake up tomorrow. Another told them they’d broken trust with everyone in the room. Cao and the other brass talked about chaplains.
Somebody asked when the ship would finally return home—they wouldn’t say.
Eight days later, the Navy announced that the Lincoln is coming home. All five thousand of them—including Karen Bramlett’s grandson and Nicole Conrad’s son.
The Navy will call it a routine shift. Two weeks ago nobody in Washington had said a word about that ship. Now senators want to fly out and see it themselves, a Republican congressman is calling for hearings, and Trump will have to answer for all of it in November.
Every single day we help lead this fight against Trump. We’ve done it for more than a decade now. We helped lead the first impeachment campaign ever. We helped uncover the Trump-Russia scandal. And now we are leading the charge to take back Congress.
But we need all hands on deck to keep moving full speed ahead. Everything we do is funded 100% by our readers. From our reporting and investigating—which reaches millions—to our unmatched organizing on social media, to our pressure campaign on Congress which has sent 812,000 letters and made countless calls since November of 2024.
The regime is absolutely beatable—this edition proves it. And the midterms are winnable. The work we do now is what will result in the outcome we all hope for. So if you haven’t yet, I hope you can join us as a paid subscriber today and support our independent journalism that fights back:

You’re in that hall in San Diego with the Navy Secretary sitting in front of you. You’ve got the floor. What do you say?
