Two focuses for today!

**Yosemite.** A Nevada developer wants a strip of the park for a private road. 1,172 letters in the first three days. https://actionnetwork.org/letters/tell-congress-stop-trumps-yosemite-giveaway

**Mail voting.** Hearing is Thursday, and ballots are already going out in some states. https://actionnetwork.org/letters/tell-congress-protect-our-use-of-voting-by-mail-and-voting-machines/

Thank you Scott for making it so easy to tell my Congress people about my concerns. And I do hear back from them! This alone is certainly worth a subscription!!! :-)

We spent the evening in other people’s paperwork so you didn’t have to. A whistleblower. A secretary of state who wouldn’t hand over the file. A man in Georgia who said he didn’t ask for a tax cut. Five neighbors in Ohio. None of that happens if readers don’t fund the time it takes to open the docket. Grateful you’re here. Now restack it so the next person finds out they’re not wrong.

Scott Dworkin's avatar

Let's keep the momentum going!

Sandy S's avatar

So well put Sam!!!! Everything Scott and you are doing is worth a subscription and maybe even a gift subscription, too! :-) Honestly I am not hearing about many of these stories anywhere else. And they are each very important! Thank you!! :-)

Linda Ollis's avatar

Fund or find? We really have to do both~ just wish I could fund more efforts!

The part I can’t shake is Trenton. Not a PAC. Not a famous last name. Five neighbors and a letter to city hall. If your council ever moves the goalposts after you did the work, send them this.

Steve Simon told Washington the voter file isn’t theirs. That’s the whole job. More of that, please.

Scott Dworkin's avatar

Exactly! The Trenton story shows that local voices really do matter. And Steve Simon is setting the exact standard we need right now. We definitely won't let these stories get buried.

Ernesto Fontana's avatar

When will Homan return the $50k that he took in a sting operation. Why isn't anyone talking about this.

Betsy L's avatar

Because they've flooded the zone with shit, just like Steve Bannon told them to. There's so much corruption and incompetence going on that it's hard to focus on one thing.

Scott Dworkin's avatar

You hit the nail on the head, Betsy. The sheer volume of chaos is a deliberate strategy, but we refuse to let the important stories get lost in the noise!

netta glaser's avatar

Thank you Scott for all you do

Scott Dworkin's avatar

That is a fantastic question, Ernesto. It’s absolutely wild what gets brushed under the rug, which is exactly why we have to keep bringing these issues up and demanding accountability! But it's on our list

Sandy S's avatar

That's why you are on my list, Scott! My list of Substack Newsletters that I will subscribe to even as the budget is getting damn tight! You bring not only good news, you bring the important details of how WE are getting stuff done, in spite of a rotten administration and mainstream media being taken over by crooked conglomerates. No fluff, just the real good stuff that is getting done! Thank you! :-)

netta glaser's avatar

I would like an answer to that, also. Maybe requiring a subpoena for Pam Bondi might get an answer!

Trump doing what he does All-The-Time - LIE - CHEAT - STEAL - RIG - RIP OFF Americans at every turn (and stuff his pockets with OUR MONEY)! He will stop at nothing to get power, keep power, stay in power. And he is helped by his Enablers at all levels of the government from Republican state legislators to Republican members of Congress to the Roberts 6. And even more so from the Billionaires who are literally rolling in the dough thanks to him and them working together to Screw the people of America. Thank God for people like OUR Secretary of State Steve Simon who actually works on BEHALF of the people and not some political hack buddies of Donald Trump (like the Republicans running for office in MN and across the country). Vote them ALL out of office and THEN get to work taking back America from those who refuse to put the people first. (And hold everyone of them accountable for their attacks on America.)

Scott Dworkin's avatar

So well said, Murray! Having dedicated public servants like Steve Simon makes all the difference. We have to keep shining a light on the corruption and vote them all out. Thank you for your continued support!

Sandy S's avatar

Love your state Murray! Love everything about it...well except for that stinking pillow man. Go Amy Klobuchar!!! :-)

I am so glad this is out in the open. There are many states that only doing mail in. WA is one of them. When my Mom was alive out there it was the only way for her to vote and be counted. It is SO important.

Scott Dworkin's avatar

Thank you for sharing that, Candace. Vote-by-mail is a lifeline for so many people, just like your Mom. We have to protect it so every single voice is heard!

netta glaser's avatar

I am one of those, thank you

Cecelia Ottenweller's avatar

Thank you for your work, Scott!

Scott Dworkin's avatar

You're very welcome, Cecelia! Thank you so much for reading and being part of this community!

Pam's avatar

I live in Arizona and have always voted by mail. I live in a mobile home park. I have never had a problem with mail in voting. This year however I will hand carry my ballot to the registrars office after I finish voting for every Democrat! I will be 80 on Nov 14. All I want for that is a Landslide Dem victory across this country! Thanks!

Scott Dworkin's avatar

That sounds like a very solid plan. Doing whatever makes you feel most secure about your vote is exactly the right move!

Rose Edgar's avatar

The unsupreme court just gave trump cart Blanche on voting by mail, he can do what he wants. I’m so sick of the supreme court and trump. How do we fight this, however if ballots are already going out maybe he can’t stop our votes. Let’s hope so

Scott Dworkin's avatar

It is incredibly frustrating, Rose, but our best defense is massive turnout. Getting those ballots in early and ensuring everyone we know is voting is how we fight back!

Ernesto Fontana's avatar

Why aren't city and county officials ,who are promoting data centers, held accountable for their back door negotiations regarding data centers without input from the community?

Scott Dworkin's avatar

They need to be!

Sister Stan's avatar

Exactly! However, maybe it is but not getting the attention it deserves or needs.

netta glaser's avatar

I think the bottom line is GREED

Dancset's avatar

Planning to drop off at early voting location or the election office. Did drop box once, but it made me nervous.

Barbara's avatar

I always used the drop box. This year I will hand deliver to the election office. But by no means will I mail my completed ballot. It's pretty scary when we cannot even trust the US Postal Service thanks to the corrupt man in the gold (White) House.

Scott Dworkin's avatar

Hand delivering is a great way to have peace of mind this year, Barbara. We absolutely must protect our postal service and our voting rights!

Carol Richardson's avatar

I vote by mail. Usually, I just mail it back. Early. This time I will vote by mail, but either drive it to the County Clerk's office directly or mail it the day after it comes in the mail. Either way, it'll be early.

Scott Dworkin's avatar

Love that plan, Carol! Getting it in early and securely is exactly how we ensure our voices are counted.

Monica P.'s avatar

Accountability has left this country! Such corruption! It would be easy to throw up one’s hands and give up…

Reporting that you’ve done today puts a spin on things. More than ever we need to find ways to be informed and involved. Don’t forget that WE ARE THE RESISTANCE and we will make a difference.

Scott Dworkin's avatar

We are the resistance, Monica! Staying informed, involved, and refusing to give up is how we win. Thank you for your wonderful energy!

Sam Jones's avatar

100%. Making us give up is the whole purpose of their propaganda machine, but I refuse to let them win.

Betsy L's avatar

I grew up in MN, but haven't lived there in decades. My sister, who's lived there her entire life, says that Peggy Flanagan hasn't actually done much of anything for MN, and she voted for Angie Craig. My sister's as liberal as I am, and very tuned in to MN politics.

Scott Dworkin's avatar

Thanks for sharing that perspective from your sister, Betsy. It's always helpful to hear how things are playing out on the ground with local voters!

Kathy's avatar

“Raymond Carver turned down a tax cut to keep his neighborhood quiet. Would you?”

Absolutely! Good luck having noise ordinances enforced with those tax cuts.

DeSantis pushed the GOP-dominated Florida legislature to pass Amendment 3 ,on the ballot this Nov,that would reduce real estate taxes while gutting services. The Fl Sheriffs,FOP and Fire Chiefs are all opposed!

Scott Dworkin's avatar

Exactly, Kathy! A quiet neighborhood and fully funded local services are worth so much more. Gutting services just to lower taxes is a losing proposition for the community.

Happy Valley No More's avatar

I agree. Quiet and taxes that work IN the SERVICE of the taxpayer…you know, stuff like roads, schools, utilities, trash pickup…stuff like that!

Deb Chrystal's avatar

NC has made it hard to vote by mail with the need of 2 witnesses and a copy of ID, so we have switched to early in person

Scott Dworkin's avatar

It is so frustrating to see those hurdles put in place, Deb, but switching to early in-person is a fantastic pivot. Thank you for making sure your vote counts!
