Anti-Trump Protests In Florida and More Great News
Tillis won’t run again, protests at "Alligator Alcatraz,” terrible poll numbers for Trump's evil bill, and more
I’m happy to have this awesome new edition of Great News for you to kick off the week. Thanks for reading—let’s jump right in.
After massive bipartisan public pressure, GOP Sen. Mike Lee removed his public land sell-off from Trump’s evil budget bill. The fight is far from over, but the American people won this round.
Trump is expected to visit the abomination known as “Alligator Alcatraz” this week. It’s a grotesque tent city intended to house undocumented immigrants in the Florida Everglades. But protesters have been speaking out, rallying outside of the entrance to the facility. And 2 groups are suing in federal court in an attempt to close it down.
In California, State Senator Sasha Renée Pérez introduced a bill called the “No Vigilantes Act.” The legislation would “require any law enforcement operating in California to clearly display a name or badge number.” Something that should be mandatory everywhere.
Pérez stated: “We’ve heard concerns from so many constituents across the state saying, how am I supposed to be able to tell if this is actually federal law enforcement or if this is a vigilante who’s impersonating an ICE officer?” Exactly.
In Congress, GOP Sen. Thom Tillis of North Carolina says he won’t be running for reelection. Good riddance to the coward who brought us Pete Hegseth. But this does make NC a prime pickup opportunity for Democrats in the Senate. Political forecasters already moved the race from “lean Republican” to a “toss-up.”
GOP Rep. Mike Lawler hosted another town hall, with protesters gathered outside, holding a large “Hands off our Medicaid” sign. Inside, Lawler faced boos, and chants of “Tax the rich!” At one point Lawler told the crowd not to curse, and someone in the audience loudly responded: “Why not? The president does.”
As always, we should take polling with a grain of salt. But 5 recent polls show that a large majority of Americans are against Trump’s evil budget bill. Even 59% of respondents in a Fox poll said they oppose the trash legislation.
These poll numbers are beyond abysmal for Trump. But that’s not enough to push Republicans to vote against it—which is where we come in.
Our Contact Congress campaign reaches Senators and Reps. thousands of times per day—making countless calls and sending more than 402,000 letters since just November. We are pressuring the GOP to vote no on this big evil bill, and fighting back against any cuts to Medicaid, Social Security, and more.
We’re 100% reader-funded—it’s how we stay completely independent and ad-free. So if you haven’t already, please become a paid subscriber today:
No matter how you subscribe, thanks for doing what you can to fight this big evil bill.
Onward!
