We are told they have an effect, but how? Do they sort them by topic and yea or nay and report the numbers? Resistbot (50409)makes it easy, but even though we get the form letters back, they never seem to change their votes. How can we really get their attention? My representatives have NEVER actually represented me or given me a reason why they think I am wrong.

I listened to Mary Trump explain that Donald’s most humiliating experience was having a bowl of mashed potatoes dumped on his head as a child because he wouldn’t stop torturing his baby brother at the dinner table after being told to STOP IT by his siblings. So Freddie, his older brother, picked up a bowl of mashed potatoes his mother had set on the table and dumped it on Donald’s head and everyone just laughed and laughed.

At any event, protest or communication involving Donald mashed potatoes need to be highlighted. I can imagine so many props and signage just thinking this infuriates Donald and now we all know it! Just carrying a box of potato flakes will do just fine!

“But there are currently four vacant seats in the House, and three of them cover deep blue districts where the Democrat is expected to prevail in special elections slated for later this year. Two of those elections will happen this month, and both of the Democratic candidates are vowing to sign the petition as soon as they arrive on Capitol Hill — enough to hit the magical 218 number required to force the Epstein bill to the floor. “

Crazy times when I can agree with anything from Rand Paul and even MTG, although it will be interesting to see if she continues to stand up for the Epstein survivors. Was glad to hear they're talking about putting out their own list if this regime continues to bury THE EPSTEIN FILES.

No way is Vance going to come out on top in a battle with Paul. For that matter, I don't see him coming out on top of a battle with much of anyone. It's not "coming out on top" if he illegally uses power to punish people, or, you know, kill them.

Expand full comment
Wis's avatar

“Illegally using power” seems to be the “in” thing to do in this swamp-government, HarrisWaltz. “Illegal” has lost all meaning.

Expand full comment
HarrisWalz FTW 2024's avatar

I know. On top of that even Roget has run out of words for "horrifying," "incomprehensible," "inhumane," etc.

As for "illegal," with everything else he's doing, no one even talks about how he has kicked the crap out of the emoluments clause.

"Clause? What clause? What is this Constitution of which you speak?"

Most of us had no idea he'd get this bad so fast. (Yeah, yeah. Someone's going to see this and say "I did!") Many of us new it would be terrible for him to be back in office, but how many people would have thought that in less than six months he'd be sending innocent people to hellholes in countries with no connection to them, much less setting up concentration camps in our own country? Yes, the stuff he pulled at the border in his first term was bad, but he's put all of that and worse into his first few months this time around. Every crime is exponentially worse.

Edited to add: darned if I can figure out why I can't get my computer to put the k at the beginning of "new." Makes me cringe to see it wrong.

Expand full comment
Cheryl Johnson's avatar

⬆️Most of us had no idea he'd get this bad so fast. (Yeah, yeah. Someone's going to see this and say "I did!")

I always suspected he would use Bannon's strategy of flooding the zone, but the scope of it is mind-blowing.

For example, I was expecting tariffs - that was well telegraphed. Even the on-again off-again TACO strategy was predictable from his behavior during Trump 1.0. But trying to annex Canada as the 51st state, buying Greenland, or taking back the Panama Canal? Bonkers!

The same with deporting undocumented immigrants. Everyone knew he was going to make maximum use of that as a wedge issue. That's why he scuttled the bipartisan immigration bill by leaning on the GOP.

But even knowing that he would have his toadies in the DOJ, Homeland Security, etc. I am still shocked by the jack-booted ICE thugs kidnapping people off the streets and then sending them to prison camps in the FL everglades or hijacking them and putting them in hellhole prisons in 3rd world countries.

Honestly, I'm not so much surprised that Trump would think of it - he is phychopath IMO -- but I am that so many people would go along with him! Nor was I expecting so many institutions like universities, media companies or law firms to obey in advance and surrender without a fight. Disgusting!

Expand full comment
HarrisWalz FTW 2024's avatar

All of that, all at the same time, and, yes, with so many people/entities folding so fast. I honestly keep expecting him to have his thugs break whatever surrounds the original Constitution (surely something more than basic glass?), seize the document, and burn it. I wish NARA would step in and store it somewhere he'll never find it.

The domino effect of law firms, universities and news media is beyond chilling. We're back in "yo, Roget!" territory. (see above)

Wis's avatar

Me too. Cringe and wonder where we will be in 3 1/2 years. After a moment of cringing and wondering that, I want to cry.

Expand full comment
HarrisWalz FTW 2024's avatar

The first time around, I cried for three days after the election results were announced. (Okay, I woke up and cried and then kept going; I didn't cry 24/7.) This time, I felt numb. People on TV shows say "they're going into shock!" and I honestly don't know what that means symptom-wise, but it felt like what could be called that. But hey, we've learned that the vocabulary that existed prior to this past Jan. 20, already fragile with cracks and even breakthroughs in a few places has been rendered almost worthless.

⬆️"...although it will be interesting to see if she continues to stand up for the Epstein survivors."

I have heard 2 credible explanations for MTG's standing with the survivors.

They both show calculated self-interest (which is part of why I think they're credible):

* she doesn't want to offend the Q Anon wing of the GOP who are totally bought into the Epstein Pedophile conspiracy theory that led to Pizzagate - they believe that it will take down a bunch of prominent Democrats.

* she wants to run for GA Governor and she needs to broaden her appeal beyond MAGA and she thinks this will help her with women voters

Expand full comment
HarrisWalz FTW 2024's avatar

First seems more likely, but I wouldn't rule out the second. It appears that many women from Georgia are misogynists.

I love to see this kind of unambiguous coordination in Chicago. Unfortunately, the local groups in my community that are ‘organizing’ things often send out contradictory or ‘on again / off again’ messages. Also, are you a member of a local Indivisible chapter? They usually have their act together. You can look for a local chapter here: https://groups.indivisible.org/

FYI, I think there are now only a handful of US congressional districts without an Invisible chapter. They have been growing by leaps and bounds. My local chapter has tripled in membership just since the first of the year!

I was in school in Soviet dominated Hungary when Stalin died. I remember the exhilarating joy in the joyous faces all around. But soon the order for mourning and crying came around with another order that required all of us to serve as Honor Guards at his statue and each of us had to recite the great leader's virtues increasing the praise as we went around.

Watching the last Cabinet meeting of President Mashed Potato Head Reminded me of that unforgettable day!

I can't quite decide how they expected that to work. It is not like a Trump rally where a heckler would be outed by the MAGA supporters around him or her and then Trump's Security could manhandle them out of the arena.

Or was it just something they said to make trump happy knowing that the boos would happen anyway so they could shrug and say "well, we tried"?
