I have seen several people floating the idea of making Pete the spokesman for the Democrats. Allowing him an even bigger national audience and he can work with Congressional Dems to get the message out with some dignified zing!

Could you be more specific about those "several people"? No need to name names (unless you've got them handy), but it would help to know if they have standing, e.g., in the DNC.

Also -- be careful what you wish for. Such a position would put constraints on Buttigieg, who is one of the most eloquent and intelligent speakers we've got.

There is no one better to do the job….but is Mayor Pete OLD enough to be the @DNC messenger?

Or more importantly, does Nancy Pelosi agree with Pete? Without her seal of approval, his appointment would be dead in the water! Look what she did to our last President!

Thank you for defending democracy, Scott. Please don't forget all the civil servants who are being fired and furloughed. My partner and I have lost our careers because of the fascists. We had to line up at a food bank last week. Then they ran out of food because so many of us are struggling with DOGE and the MAGA shutdowns.

To convince cowardly R’s in Congress to do their Constitutional duty & end this madness, their personal bottom line needs to hurt- this made Disney change its tune quickly.

How? MASSIVE boycotts of businesses supporting the regime (which most R’s own stock in). Shop small, cut back, save, donate.

Make your own bread. It’s not difficult and cost is about 1/4 of store bought bread.

I made two loaves of pumpkin bread last night. It is an easy no kneed sweet bread that is great toasted for breakfast and also makes tasty sandwiches! I stuck one loaf in the freezer that is sliced with waxed paper between the slices for easy use later. Since I am gluten and dairy free this saves a ton of money and I love it!!! :-)

I like to bake at the holidays and that makes a great gift - cookies, brownies, muffins, and mini-loafs of various quick breads. When I was working, I put together dozens of little mini treat boxes (styled after the paper containers with aluminum handles that you get with Chinese carryout) with about 4 cookies per box. I'd stock up on boxes in after christmas sales to use the fiollowing year. I still have a plastic tote in my garage with decorative containers for baked goods.

Also, consider hosting a cookie exchange with your friends and/or neighbors. It is a great way to get a selection of holiday treats without baking them all yourself!

It’s good to hear that some Americans would rather not be arrested, subjugated, possibly tortured, disappeared, killed or exiled. Maybe we can convince more Americans, those who still live in “The Enquirer world” that it’s not nice to do that to other people.

Buttigieg said exactly what I’ve been thinking— “I’m certainly never going to be invited to dinner at the White House or have a meal in the paved-over rose garden.” Trump is NOT doing this for all Americans—he’s doing it for himself. BTW-MAGA—you probably won't be invited either!

Until I see a true inspection of the plans and record of it passing construction certifications, I will have a hard time believing that we will know, what the devil this construction is actually going to be used for. 'Ballroom' has always sounded like a last minute coverup to me. Who is building ballrooms? It is not like either DJT or Melania are into ballroom dancing. Something about this sounds, like we are being lied to.

Expand full comment
Diana's avatar

The PEOC (the bunker) is located under what used to be the East Wing. So, maybe the real reason for this construction is to increase the size, and that is what the "generous donors" are really paying for. A room in the shelter.

I believe that the ballroom is a distraction to hide a bunker below, which will give him a place to hide while he attempts to demolish our democracy. And since his health - including mental health - is rapidly deteriorating, it would be helpful to know if we really have to have Vance as the backup. I fear for our democracy… please impeach t - and Vance - asap…

ICE Barbie has no limits because she is a trumpy sycophant! She shot her puppy and she doesn’t give much more regard for immigrants. Her cruelty is mimicked after trumps. I’m all for converting confederate statues into anti racism art but we need to go further than that. Anti racism needs to be a theme for the next election. Mayor Pete nailed it with trumps ballroom and Kamala is looking to run again. I respect both of them but hope they don’t run for president. This country is being brainwashed as racists, anti gay and anti woman. We can’t lose another election because of the maga vote!

I am a history major. Whether we like it or not, I don’t believe in demolishing the White House East Wing or any of our country’s historical statues, buildings, Constitution, democracy or history.

One of the things I appreciate about Europeans is that they preserve their buildings and art, including statues.
