Fifteen People Just Walked Out Of ICE Detention and More Great News That’s Terrible For Trump
Two people sued and a judge made it stick. Plus a fired prosecutor takes Trump to court, a Republican loses big in Maricopa County, and my read on the Senate race others wrote off.
The resistance is winning. In courtrooms, city elections, and in places the regime never thought to watch. They need you to believe otherwise. You helped prove them wrong, whether you’ve been here with me since 2016 or if you showed up last Tuesday. Either way, I’m glad you’re here. Thanks for having my back.
Real quick, hit the ❤️ like button and restack this edition. When you restack, these wins show up for everyone who follows you. That’s how a story about fifteen people walking out of ICE detention reaches somebody who needs a bit of hope today.
My full read on a Senate race some had written off two weeks ago is waiting for paid subscribers this morning. They’re the reason I can keep it free for everyone else—become one today:
HE MADE IT UP. SHOCKER.
Peter Navarro, Trump’s trade adviser, told the Jan 6 Committee he couldn’t testify because executive privilege covered him. Trump had shielded him, he claimed, and that was that. The House voted to hold him in contempt of Congress, and the DOJ indicted him soon after. He was convicted in 2023, served four months in prison, and then filed an appeal.
On Tuesday, a federal appeals court finished picking his story apart. Navarro “asserted executive privilege unilaterally,” Judge Patricia Millett wrote in a unanimous 37-page ruling. He never consulted Trump about any of it. He decided on his own that he was protected, and he was wrong.
The DOJ had originally prosecuted Navarro and won. Then, under Trump, it stopped defending that conviction. The judges upheld it anyway.
Judge Amit Mehta had already handed Navarro the truth at sentencing: “You are not a victim.” Two courts, same answer.
FIRED ALMOST IMMEDIATELY
The federal judges of western Washington State picked former prosecutor and County Judge Roger Rogoff unanimously. That’s how the position is filled when the Senate leaves it empty. He took the oath on July 15th, and less than an hour later an email from the White House told him he was fired.
Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche had promised as much before the judges even chose. Whoever they picked, he posted, would “suffer the same fate as others have.”
He wasn’t bluffing. In New Jersey they fired Desiree Grace, a nine-year career prosecutor, the day the judges picked her. In Albany, Blanche fired Donald Kinsella by social media post. Both of them walked away quietly, and the regime took that as permission to keep going.
Rogoff just ended that. He sued, naming Trump and Blanche both, and now they have to make their case in front of a federal judge.
FIFTEEN PEOPLE WALKED OUT OF ICE DETENTION
Two people in Nevada sued because ICE was holding them without bond hearings. In March, federal judge Richard Boulware struck down the policy behind it, and that ruling opened the door for hundreds more to finally see a judge. The government never appealed. It just ignored the order.
This month, Boulware ran out of patience. “Three months have passed,” he wrote, “yet ICE has not conducted an initial custody determination.” The government, he said, was rebelling against the basic principle that a court order must be obeyed. He ordered 17 people released, and ICE cannot re-arrest a single one without first proving its case to an immigration judge.
Fifteen people are free tonight—and two others are on the way out. Remember that the next time somebody tells you nothing works.
HE GAVE UP HIS SEAT AND LOST ANYWAY
Republican Jeff Weninger held a seat in the Arizona House and gave it up to run for mayor of Chandler, the fourth-largest city in the state. The outgoing GOP mayor backed him.
He lost by sixteen points to Matt Orlando—a retired Air Force colonel, six terms on the city council, in Chandler since 1983. Orlando is a registered independent who votes with Democrats.
Weninger didn’t even wait for Maricopa County to finish counting. He conceded Wednesday on Facebook: “It’s clear that we came up short.” And the loss didn’t stop with him. The Republicans’ council candidate ran for one of three open seats and lost.
This is Maricopa County in July. November is coming.
WE DON’T JUST REPORT. WE ORGANIZE.
The wins are real and sometimes they’re quiet. They happen in district courtrooms and city council elections, and in every moment when one person decides the outcome isn’t settled yet.
Not one of them happened on its own. Somebody filed. Somebody ruled. Somebody drove to a polling place in Arizona in July heat for a race the country wasn’t watching.
That’s the half you don’t see. We build the campaigns and put the tools in your hands to act. More than 796,000 times since November 2024, our readers used them to pressure Congress with calls and letters. Go back a full decade and that number gets into the millions. We also run one of the largest anti-Trump operations on social media anywhere, reaching millions of people who’d never see a word of these wins otherwise.
That takes staff, lawyers, and hours of work behind the scenes. It runs on readers, and that’s exactly why nobody can call here and get a story killed. Paid subscribers are the only reason that stays true, and I’m looking for 14 of you to join us today:
Then hit the ❤️ like button and restack this. If somebody following you is close to giving up, what’s in this edition might be what brings them back.
Onward!
