A TOWN TRUMP WON JUST PICKED A DEMOCRAT

Abbeville, South Carolina had a mayor named Trey Edwards until he was censured over ethics violations last year and quit in April. That left two city council members eyeing the job, and this month the town got to choose between them.

It wasn’t close. Faye Thomas, backed by the Democratic Party, took 68.7% against John Sutherland—412 votes to 187. What scares Republicans is that Trump carried Abbeville in 2024.

This race alone doesn’t decide anything, but it’s where you see it first, in the places Republicans stopped worrying about.

They counted on Abbeville. Four hundred twelve people said no.

REPUBLICANS ARE LOSING A SEAT OVER PAPERWORK

Paula Stark is a Republican state representative in central Florida, and to run again this year all she had to do was turn in her paperwork by noon on June 12. Her campaign treasurer walked into the Division of Elections twenty-five minutes before that deadline—but the one form that actually mattered never got handed over.

Five state workers confirmed it under oath. Stark sued to get back on the ballot anyway. Judge Joshua Hawkes—appointed by Ron DeSantis—denied her motion to reconsider, and last week ordered the case closed for good.

District 47 now has no Republican on the ballot at all. Two Democrats will face off on August 18, and because no Republican qualified, that primary decides the seat.

Stark won this seat by 878 votes in 2022 and 1,246 votes in 2024. Republicans just gave it away over a piece of paper.

THE REGIME BLINKED IN A COURTROOM

Armed FBI agents came to Julian Barnes’s door while he and his wife sat at home with their oldest son. Barnes is a New York Times reporter, and the DOJ wanted him under oath in front of a grand jury. His wife, Katherine Marsh, told NPR it felt un-American.

The government was after the names of the people who told the Times that Trump’s Qatari jet wasn’t as safe as the old Air Force One. Give up those names and every government employee watching learns what happens when you tell a reporter the truth.

On Thursday, the DOJ had to explain itself to Judge Arun Subramanian. Subpoenas against reporters are supposed to be the last step in an investigation, the judge told them, not the first. The government had taken the law protecting the press and turned it on its head.

Before the hearing ended, the department withdrew every one of the subpoenas. Three reporters kept their sources, and the regime got nothing for it.

TRUMP’S OWN JUDGE SHUT THE DOOR

Since last summer, the regime has been demanding voter files from thirty states plus DC, including names, birthdays, home addresses, and Social Security numbers.

Kentucky handed over a version with the sensitive information stripped out. When officials there refused to surrender the rest, the Justice Department sued Michael Adams—the Republican Secretary of State—to get it. David Yates, the Jefferson County clerk, jumped into the case beside him to defend the voters he serves. “Kentucky voters have nothing to hide,” Yates said. “What we would not do is surrender confidential personal information that the law protects.”

On Thursday, Judge Claria Horn Boom threw the case out, and Trump himself put her on that bench. She dismissed it with prejudice, meaning the DOJ can’t bring it back.

This is the regime’s seventeenth straight loss in the fight to get your voter data. Thirty states, Kentucky included, have refused to hand it over.

That kind of courage doesn’t travel on its own. Somebody has to go find it, tell the truth about it, and put it in front of enough people that it can’t be buried.

Almost nobody does that work anymore. A mayor’s race in a small town doesn’t sell ads. A ruling in a Kentucky courtroom won’t move anyone’s ratings. The stories that decide who runs this country are worth nothing to the people who own the news, so they go missing. Every one that does is a free win for the regime.
