The week is nearly over, but the madness from Musk and Trump is certainly not—so I’m glad to have more good news to deliver today. I hope it gives you some relief, and shows you there are a lot of great people fighting back against Trump and his maga cult.
Rallies are planned in DC and at every state capitol tomorrow, to call out Trump’s firing of Veterans and dismantling of the VA. The organizing group’s promotional poster quotes General Mark Milley, reading: “We don’t take an oath to a king.”
In Raleigh, North Carolina yesterday, there was a “down with DOGE” protest organized by NC Democrats. Putting a spotlight on firings of federal workers, the midday rally featured enormous puppets of Musk, Putin, and Trump. One of the organizers, journalist Lauren Windsor, said: “Get out here and get loud and be engaged … people need this sense of community right now.”
At the event, NC Dem Party Chair Anderson Clayton gave a rousing speech with a clear message: “We need you to take action and to help us.” Clayton also said that in addition to rallies, they need to be “in communities every day … telling folks about what this administration is doing.”
In Congress, Dem Rep. John Larson called out Republicans during a DOGE Oversight hearing, asking: “Where’s the independence of the committee? … Where’s Elon Musk?” Larson also said: “If he’s so great, if these plans and all the fraud and abuse that he’s found are so eminent, why isn’t he here explaining it? … You know why. Because he wants to privatize Social Security.”
And on Tuesday, GOP Rep. Keith Self was slammed for misgendering the first transgender lawmaker in the House, Dem Rep. Sarah McBride. The top Dem on the Committee, Rep. William Keating loudly spoke up: “Mr. Chairman, have you no decency? … You will not continue with me unless you introduce a duly elected representative the right way.” Rep. Self then abruptly ended the hearing.
Trump’s border lapdog Tom Homan was confronted inside the New York State Capitol yesterday, over the wrongful detention of activist Mahmoud Khalil. NY assemblyman Zohran Mamdani yelled at Homan, saying: “How many more New Yorkers will you detain? How many more New Yorkers without charge? … Do you believe in the First Amendment, Tom Homan?”
A federal judge blocked parts of Trump’s executive order that targets the law firm Perkins Coie. Trump was trying to suspend security clearances held by employees, block government contractors from hiring them, and ban all of their workers from federal buildings. The judge stated this “casts a chilling harm of blizzard proportion across the entire legal profession,” saying it was an effort “to intimidate” firms like Perkins Coie, who have a history of taking on Trump.
A separate federal judge ruled that Trump did not have the power to remove a member of the Federal Labor Relations Authority, calling it unlawful. Trump had fired Susan Tsui Grundmann, who then sued, leading to her reinstatement.
In another court case, DOGE was ordered to provide records and answer questions, about their plans to dismantle the federal government. The judge chastised Musk and DOGE, saying it “appears to be the unchecked authority of an unelected individual and an entity that was not created by Congress and over which it has no oversight.” This is just one of the more than 20 lawsuits filed against DOGE since January.
As I’ve said for years, we can’t trust polls done by networks like CNN. But, I did find their latest numbers to be very bad news for Trump. The results stated that “56% majority of the public disapproves of his handling of the economy, worse than at any point during his first term in office.”
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez roasted Mike Johnson for claiming—even though the GOP is in power—that Democrats are to blame for the potential government shutdown. AOC said: “You run the government. If you have the votes, then go ahead. If you need Democrats, then you need to negotiate with Democrats. Those are your two options. Blaming someone else because your shoes are untied isn’t one.”
Lastly, Ruth Marcus, who worked at The Washington Post for more than 40 years, resigned this week over the paper’s refusal to print a piece critical of owner Jeff Bezos. Marcus wrote a scathing essay in The New Yorker, saying “My job is supposed to be to tell you what I think, not what Jeff Bezos thinks I should think.”
Unlike corporate media, we will always cut through the nonsense to give you the truth. And we don’t have billionaires who can block us from running a story. We’ve fought Trump for over 9 years now, and we’ll never back down.
On top of reporting the news, our activism arm—The Watchdog Coalition—is working every single day to take on DOGE, while defending Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security. Our contact Congress campaign has already sent more than 212,000 letters, and made countless phone calls to the House and Senate.
Our social media following is one of the largest in all of politics, which ensures we’re never just preaching to the choir. On Tuesday, our “Republican Cuts Hurt Veterans” messaging campaign trended on social media—even on Twitter/X. And our “Hands Off Our Medicaid” effort garnered more than a billion impressions, in less than 2 weeks.
100% of our funding comes from our paid subscribers on Substack. We have no outside investors, and we remain ad-free.

Do you agree with me that Republicans are to blame if there’s a government shutdown?
