Great News From Schiff and Raskin That’s Bad For Trump and Musk

Building from the momentum of last weekend’s enormous “Hands Off!” demonstrations, the next round of protests have been planned for Saturday, April 19th. Let’s make sure turnout for this is the biggest yet!

Tomorrow, CNN will host a town hall with Sen. Bernie Sanders at 9pm ET. Great to hear he’s going to be on. And this Saturday, Dem Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is teaming up with Sanders for a stop in Los Angeles as part of the “Fighting Oligarchy” tour. Musicians Neil Young, Joan Baez, and Maggie Rogers will be performing.

In the courts, the state of Maine filed a lawsuit against the USDA for freezing federal funds over Trump’s attempt to ban transgender athletes—which could lead to cuts for school lunch programs for children. Maine’s Attorney General Aaron Frey said it best: “Under the banner of keeping children safe, the Trump administration is illegally withholding grant funds that go to keeping children fed.”

An appeals court reinstated Cathy Harris to the Merit Systems Protection Board and Gwynne Wilcox to the National Labor Relations Board. Both were illegally fired by Trump, so he could further abuse his power. Glad to see them back.

In Congress, Dem Sen. Adam Schiff and Dem Rep. Jamie Raskin co-hosted a “spotlight hearing,” focused on Trump’s corruption at the Department of Justice. This approach allows Dems to hold hearings without Republican approval.

There were four brave witnesses: Fmr. prosecutor Ryan Crosswell, who resigned from DoJ when pressured to help drop charges against NYC Mayor Eric Adams; Fmr. DOJ pardon attorney Liz Oyer, who was fired after refusing to restore Mel Gibson’s gun rights; Lawyer Rachel Cohen, who resigned from her law firm after it made a pro bono deal to support the Trump agenda; and Stacey Young, who started a support network for former DoJ employees.

Raskin praised their bravery, saying: “Our witnesses are people who have refused to bow down, and be complicit, in the way so many of our colleagues have been complicit.”

Schiff slammed Republicans, stating: “Trump is taking unprecedented steps to bend our justice system to his will.” And the GOP has stood by as Trump “has run roughshod over the legislative branch, and turned Congress into a little more than a rubber stamp.”

This kind of hearing is a great way to push back against the Trump regime. It’s a tool that Democrats need to use more often, to combat the constant lies coming from Trump and his cult.
