If we stick together through this, and maintain this energy, Congress is ours for the taking! Keep it up, folks.

And then what? And who do you mean by "ours"? The Democratic congressional "moderates" -- the ones in thrall to big donors and lobbyists -- are keeping a relatively low profile at the moment while the so-called grassroots surges. They know that most of the neophyte activists will go home after a successful election, while the donors and lobbyists will most definitely stick around.

Yes - the huge lobby "industry" is a major factor in our messed up political system.

Susanna J. Sturgis's avatar

I take the lobby "industry" as for sure a symptom of what's wrong, which is that in the last few decades, at least since the Reagan administration, economic power has become the unofficial, unelected fourth branch of government. It's been greatly aided by the official but likewise unelected *third* branch of government: the Supreme Court. I don't think we'd be in this mess if not for a series of events that include the end of the Fairness Doctrine, Reagan's corporate tax breaks, the repeal of Glass-Steagall, and the Supreme Court's decision in Citizens United (2010).

I see you brought your own bit of fire this morning. Great work!

I love that CBS Daddy (h/t John Oliver) told Colbert not to talk about their directives, so Colbert talked about them.

Sam Jones's avatar

They made it so much worse! 😂

What Colbert did was genius and the fact that CBS refused to air it made the fact that it was on YouTube go viral, the interview has been watched over a million times and counting. And bravo for those kids in Texas exercising their First Amendment rights! Paxton and Abbott can pound sand.

Happy to hear about Newsom. The youth have every right to peak out. Please call your senators re: Vote NO on the Save Act, even Maine, Susan Collins may vote for it. Every morning I call my Senators on this issue and No on ICE funding. We all need to do this to keep the pressure up.

I keep the pressure on my Cowardly GOP Congress members, but they are hiding spending their $$$ from insider trading...No response! I am a little blue dot in the corrupt red state, but I will never stop! VOTE BLUE!

Lily's avatar

Texas is getting little purple!

Peggy Freeman's avatar

I don't believe Florida will ever change from red!

My message would be the same to each of them… Two words, the first one beginning with an F and the second word is You.

Stephen handled it perfectly, and I couldn’t be more proud of the students and their parents in Texas!

I hear Texas is blue, it’s just so gerrymandered it appears red. Would love to see that change.

Joanne Rossmassler Fritz's avatar

Yes, Texas has more registered Democrats than Republicans! The problem is not just gerrymandering; it’s getting all those Dems to vote.

Peggy Freeman's avatar

That is an extremely hard job, Joanne! Maybe we could begin a postcard campaign to help you out? Reach out to some of these organizations that can help you.

Joanne Rossmassler Fritz's avatar

That is so kind of you, Peggy! I’m not actually in Texas, but I have a friend who is. Waiting to hear from her.

I would have done exactly what Colbert did. More people have viewed that interview than if it had aired on CBS. Good for Stephen. I hope the voters of Texas put Abbott and Paxton in their rearview mirrors. Time to turn Texas Blue. 🇺🇸👍

Colbert has been a lantern in this overwhelming darkness for a long time. He is a National treasure.

Colbert did the right thing and his followers will go to YouTube and listen to the interview. #SeeBSNews is losing their news audience and now they may lose their late night viewers. Colbert will be fine, he’s well liked, he’s entertaining and I’m sure he will find a job. The youth of TX is speaking out and it seems with parent support! Maybe there is hope! The corrupt governor and AG threatened kids with arrest for a peaceful protest! They have been in power for too long or maybe they should look for jobs under #PamBondi since the DOJ is focused on trumpy retribution.

I used to live in Texas, so proud of those students. And Ossoff and Newsom too!

How can you just not love Colbert? He literally says "FU" to Trump and his cult.

I said to the parents...you are raising the kind of leaders that will make this country safe. You can't print what I would say to Abbott or Paxton. So proud of Colbert. Thank you. Onward.

Lily's avatar

I can I am a Texan - F**K YOU Abbott and Paxton!

Joanne Steacie's avatar

Thank you, Scott for the resistance news. Great news. So proud of the Texas students! To Paxton and Abbott, I would say look in the mirror for traitors of America and defilers of law and order. As for Cobert, I'm glad he had the courage to do just what he did. Thank you Steven Cobert!

If I was Colberr I would have said both sides are welcome to come do interviews with me and I will air anyone who does not provide misinformation that couldn't pass our legal fact checking. Equal time is available for anyone who doesn't intentionally lie to our viewers.

Peggy Freeman's avatar

That would leave the republican out then!

Colbert... I cant say enough. So smart. It was a perfect interview in every way. Gotta feel hopeful after that! Thanks for more positive news!!
