May favorite part of the SOTU is also my favorite part of Trump's presidency... when it ends.

Big shout out to everyone who did something to resist last night. We put on quite the show, didn't we?

Cheryl Johnson's avatar

It was a vast improvement over the Democrat's response to last year's SoTU and Democrats subsequently voting to sanction Rep. Al Green.

Junior622's avatar

Why was Rep. Al Green escorted out?

Judith Swink (CA)'s avatar

From Scott's post: "When Trump walked in, Dem Rep. Al Green held up a sign: “Black People Aren’t Apes!” A direct response to the racist video Trump shared which depicted Barack and Michelle as just that. The Sergeant at Arms moved in as multiple Republicans grabbed for the sign. But Green held on, waving it as he was escorted out."

Pod Save America have a good analysis which I recommend – very funny! One of their comments:

“it is a good night for Republicans when Trump does not threaten to murder the Supreme Court!“

Trump RAMBLES for 2 Hours in Longest EVER State of the Union

CREO by C. C. Yager's avatar

I did not watch Trump and his shallow show and lies last night. I watched the People's State of the Union for over 2 hours (it was a very long show). I missed the one at the Press Club, though. My rep, Ilhan Omar, did a good job last night for her district, speaking up, shouting, and holding Trump accountable for lost lives (actually, if you count the thousands of lives lost because he dithered about addressing the Covid pandemic in 2020, he's responsible for so much death and destruction in this country it is appalling). I believe that if all the Epstein files ever come out (when they come out), we'll learn just how deeply TT was involved with Epstein's businesses and how culpable he is. He's a criminal.

Dr. Iris St. John's avatar

Not only will we learn how deeply Trump is involved with Epstein and with Vladimir Putin.

celeste k.'s avatar

If he's still alive, he should be sentenced to prison.

netta glaser's avatar

My opinion is: He is probably most guilty of all!!

Paula Dean's avatar

You could not pay me enough to sit through 2 hours of tRumPutin fantasy gibberish.

Robot Bender's avatar

I'd rather have a colonoscopy by RotoRooter than listen to his SOTU.

netta glaser's avatar

I don't think I would go that far but just about anything else

Joe Colacino's avatar

Actually, after your first few, colonoscopies are sort of fun, notwithstanding the prep the day before. You get the best 20-30 min of sleep in your life. And your next meal is delicious.

Megan Ross's avatar

Ditto. I just can't....

I was lucky to have to go to our granddaughters HS band concert last night

The band at their school is very good

Bonus, granddaughter had a solo, much to our surprise! She rocked it.

She plays the clarinet.

By the time we got home, his speech was over.

Otherwise my plans were to watch wet paint dry.

Way more interesting.

Figured I would get the gist of it today.

Glad I missed nothing and was able to listen to some really good music.

netta glaser's avatar

I don't need any reasons to not watch tRump

Elaine Lueras's avatar

You didn't miss a thing. I could only stomach a few seconds of having to look at his baggy, embalmed face with the fleabitten merkin stapled on his mushy head. He could hardly stand. Of course shouted nonsense. What a senile embarrassing imbecile.

Clive Smith's avatar

I had not planned to watch the SOTN speech, but I suffered through it. I felt dirty afterwards having heard his lies and hate. He is simply a disgusting excuse of a human being. No need to dissect his rant, it was mean and nasty and achieved nothing. He’s a waste of time.

Charlie's avatar

Hats off to you. Back in Trump 1, I couldn't listen to him at all. A few sounds out of him activated my muscles to hit the Off button faster than anything else.

Now, when I inadvertently hear him, I am struck by the sing-song. It is a surreal way of speaking, and that's before we even consider what he's saying. How can people ignore his weirdness???

Judith Swink (CA)'s avatar

I, too, often wonder how his voice and style of speaking doesn't register with more people to understand how classic his style is to certain types of con-men. I also can't stand (seldom watch for more than a minute if that) the way he grasps the podium and twists his shoulders from one side to the other while leaning forward and back.

Charlie's avatar

He's holding on to the podium for balance, at least now.

During Trump 1, I would quickly scroll past any photo of him on the WashPost website. I've solved that problem by dumping WaPo, which is now used White House TP.

Scott, I did not see Trump's lies, but it was reported as expected by us all. Boasts and lies, stolen credit, too long, etc. Loved what Al Green did. Much respect. Loved that the Epstein victims were there to stare him down; and loved those that called out his murders and told him he should be ashamed. Also loved that there were alternative speakers and gatherings for those that boycotted. Even Trump, as stupid as he is, should see that America is not falling for his lies and are seeing his failures. Keep it up and get this MF and his clowns and fellow pedophiles out!!!!

Ms Jonington's avatar

I knew I could count on you to give me the rundown. Glad I missed it! Thanks for your coverage, Scott!

My husband watched Trump’s 2 hr lie-a-thon out of curiosity. I refused and instead watched OUR SOTU. I can’t stand the sound of his voice or to watch him lie. I enjoyed Sen. Chris Van Hollen’s speech.

Cynthia Ureda's avatar

BTW, is his hair now pink, or was that just my tv and iPad? The few seconds I saw last night, and the pictures on my iPad say yes.

Cheryl Johnson's avatar

You mean like a little old lady sometimes has a pink or blue tint to their hair? lol.

I had noticed that it was looking a lot more silvery lately vs. the orangey-blond tint from Trump 1.0. But I don't recall any pink hues.

Maybe that is the impact of whatever intravenous drugs he is widely believed to be taking that has resulted in the bruised hands. Many moons ago, my college roommate (who had baby-fine hair) had several failed perm attempts. Eventually the stylist asked if she was on any medications. Tetracycline turned out to be the culprit. Stuff like that can end up being deposited in your hair.

Megan Ross's avatar

1) HELL NO, I didn't watch one second of The TRump Shit Show

2) I felt that Virginia Governor Spanberger's response to TRump was the best, except for I wish she would have highlighted his corruption a bit more. He is the most corrupt president we've ever had in the United States of America. #VoteAllBlue2026🔵

Barbara A Nichols's avatar

I didn't see any point in putting an effort in listening to tRump's annoying voice spouting lies, accusations & racist crap. BTW: does anyone know why the price of eggs is the grocery item he always refers to as the representation of ALL grocery prices ???

Cheryl Johnson's avatar

Other than the fact that it is one of the very few things where prices are down from the prices during the Biden Administration? If I'm not mistaken, that price spike was due to an outbreak for the bird flu which necessitated culling the flock of hens that lay eggs.

Judith Swink (CA)'s avatar

You're correct that it was the bird flu that caused the spike as flocks of hundred of thousands of laying hens were slaughtered. Once the flocks were build back up, prices dropped a bit but not all that much.

I suspect eggs were and are pricier in the national chain grocery stores than in local stores that obtain eggs locally as is the case where I live. The eggs I buy are much more fresh, egg white standing up close to the yolk rather than spreading across the pan (for fried eggs) like water. Another positive of the local sourcing is that eggs are distributed in recyclable cardboard containers, not styrofoam which few recyclers accept.

From Andy Borowitz today…

“This BBC documentary has never aired in the USA, and probably never will. But, as Stephen Colbert recently proved with his James Talarico interview, Trump’s stooges at the FCC can’t prevent video clips from being shared online.

So please share.”

He included the link to full video in the comments. The “sex pest”…
