I have passed the age of physical prowess I enjoyed in years of civil rights marches and protests against the war in Viet Nam. I can no longer walk or balance my body, particularly in a crowd. I will support younger participants online and in commentary and letter writing today. March on and make our voices heard.

I'm also getting a little shaky on my pins, but planning an hour or two with our people in Bryant Park.

I use trekking poles for stabilization, Sandra, give them a try sometime. They have made me much more confident.

Sandra Greer's avatar

I actually stayed until the end. We went as far as Madison Square Park. The end of the march was a couple of hundred uniformed police and several official-looking cars, sort of like the end of a road race. We all had a good time, if a bit damp.

Good for you Sandra that must have felt really wonderful to get it accomplished and know you could do it.

I surprised myself! Especially after a morning choir rehearsal.

My problem with trekking poles is that my hands and wrists don't tolerate the pressure. One little cane works better.

Nancy Jones's avatar

I'm glad you can use a cane. I actually wear biking gloves when I'm using my trekking poles because of the padding on the palm of my hand seems to help greatly. I also wear the gloves during my Pilates classes.

Sandra Greer's avatar

I have "exercise gloves) that I wear in TRX classes, which are really hard on my hands. Pilates is mostly hard on my wrists, especially the plank.

Nancy Jones's avatar

Well whatever keeps you active is what's best for you Sandra. I actually do planks on my knuckles I can't do them flat palmed. At our age it's all about modification right?

I'm just bringing a chair, a sign and a flag on an old fishing pole! I can sit in protest and be part of my people! Oh, and a sandwich and water. Good fun!! Best of luck everyone!

Sally, I am 80 and have been to 4 proteats so far this year. I use a cane and usually take a chair. I can still chant pretty loudly and hold my sign up. So far, every protest has been peaceful and well supported by those driving past us. Unless things get "sketchy", I plan to continue showing up because I do not want to die in a dictatorship. Today's protest was the largest and there were people of all ages including many senior citizens....we grew up protesting for civil rights and against the war in Vietnam (not the soldiers, but the war - there was a difference to me). Also noteworthy was the number of elementary age children attending with their parents. I told some of them how proud I was of them for attending, making their own signs, etc.

Diane: this was also my 4th protest this year. Beautiful day in Carson City, Nevada. We had a big, mostly calm, peaceful crowd of people. I also loved seeing the young people and families protesting together. We saw many great signs and had good conversations. It brings tears to my eyes every time I see We the People coming together like I did today.

I wish I could be on the front lines of today’s civil protest but unfortunately I’m not able to attend in person. I will however be supporting the peaceful protesters online.

You’ve done an exceptional job with this project in particular. And the rest of your projects are outstanding.

Take care and be well!!

We must take extra precautions when we go on the street, Pamela. Considering my aged legs, I will be supporting protesters online today, as well as to distribute restacks from Scott and other publishers, and key articles from truth-telling platforms to a group of readers.

This heinous act in MN is intolerable and is more evidence of the decay which is occurring in our troubled society. A big step toward stability will be to rid ourselves of drump and his putrid regime.
