TWITTER FINED

The EU Commission fined Elon Musk’s Twitter/X $140 million this week for what they called the “deceptive design of its ‘blue checkmark,’” a lack of ad transparency, and putting up “unnecessary barriers” for researchers trying to access their public data.

Henna Virkkunen, a top official for the EU, stated: “Deceiving users with blue checkmarks, obscuring information on ads, and shutting out researchers have no place online in the EU.”

TRUMP RECEIVES FAKE PEACE PRIZE

When Trump didn’t win the Nobel Prize, we talked about the possibility of him conjuring up a new prize—just so he can act like he’s been awarded one. Well, that actually seems to be the case now.

During a ceremony for the World Cup at the Kennedy Center yesterday, Trump was awarded the inaugural “FIFA Peace Prize.” That’s right—FIFA—the soccer organization.

Trump smugly draped the silly-looking medal around his own neck, saying it was one of the great honors of his life. The whole thing was beyond pathetic, especially for a tyrant who is currently inching us closer to war with Venezuela.

PIPE BOMBER SUSPECT BELIEVED “BIG LIE”

A suspect accused of planting pipe bombs in DC on January 5th, 2021, was arrested this week. And it’s now been reported that the suspect, Brian Cole Jr., confessed to authorities.

Several sources have also said he supports Trump, and that he believed Trump’s “big lie” about the 2020 election. This is another reminder why we all must fight vigorously against maga’s lies and propaganda.

RALLYING AGAINST DEPORTATIONS

A large crowd of labor union members and activists held a rally outside of Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport this week. They were there to push back against deportation flights taking off from a private hangar.

Holding a banner that read “Stop deporting our neighbors,” and loudly chanting “Stand up, fight back,” the group was fired up—even though the temperature was well below freezing.

Geof Paquette of the labor union UNITE HERE stated: “Our immigrant members are struggling just for simple dignities … when we make these corporations know that the workers can do the work and also shut it down—that’s when we win.”

MAYOR PUSHES BACK ON TRUMP’S RACISM

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey joined faith leaders on Thursday to push back hard against Trump’s attacks on the Somali community—especially in Minnesota.

“We have your back,” Frey said. “And when you come for one of us, you come for all of us.” Frey added that these folks came to America, “in many cases decades ago … They are part of our family. They are part of the fabric that makes Minneapolis a better place ... They are the people who have helped our city rise in every respect.”

Frey then made it clear: “We can be a whole lot more unified than some people in the White House would have you think. Words of division are not going to work here … Indeed, the tides are turning at this very moment.”

Mayor Frey is right. The tides absolutely are turning—but not on their own. They turn because communities like ours stand together, and because folks like us always refuse to back down.

We know the Trump regime thrives on trying to tear us apart. That’s why it’s on us to hold the line and keep up the fight. Something we’ve done for nearly a decade now.
