Never Bend A Knee: CNN Wins Against Trump, Swalwell Says Accountability Is Coming, and Indiana Lawmakers Reject Gerrymandering
Democracy fights back and refuses submission
Thanks so much for taking the time to read today’s news brief. I’m glad you’re here. I hope it gives you some relief from all of the madness, even if just for a moment.
But first—I can’t do this work without all of your support. It takes a lot to stay completely independent of corporate influence, with no ads and no billionaire backers. And we’re going to keep it that way, but we need all hands on deck. So if you haven’t yet, I hope you’ll support our movement by becoming a paid subscriber today:
Let’s jump in.
NEVER BEND A KNEE
Well, well, well. CNN refused to settle with Trump in his bogus $475 million defamation lawsuit against the network. And guess what? They won. A federal appeals court rejected his attempt to revive the case.
Trump was suing over the fact the channel kept using the term “The Big Lie” when referencing his efforts to overturn the 2020 election. A reminder that no one should ever just bend a knee to Trump. Especially not anyone in the news business.
TRUMP LOSES BIG IN NEW YORK
A judge dismissed a DOJ lawsuit that sought to overturn a New York law which blocks immigration agents from arresting people while traveling to, attending, or leaving courthouses—unless there’s a warrant.
New York Attorney General Letitia James said: “Everyone deserves to seek justice without fear. This ruling ensures that anyone can use New York’s state courts without being targeted by federal authorities. My office will continue fighting to defend the dignity and rights of immigrant communities throughout New York.”
INDIANA VOTES AGAINST GERRYMANDERING
Last week, Indiana’s GOP Senate leader Rod Bray said there were not enough votes to pass a gerrymandered congressional map.
Apparently, Indiana Gov. Mike Braun can’t take a hint, as he continued pressuring state lawmakers to get it done. So the state senate took a vote, resoundingly saying no to holding a special session on the matter in December. That ends the debate over the issue. Good.
BIG WIN IN TEXAS
Dem Rep. Jasmine Crockett commented on the big win in Texas, where a court threw out the GOP’s gerrymandered congressional map.
Crockett stated: “We witnessed a major civil rights victory for the people of Texas,” but warned “this fight isn’t over.” Crockett added: “The State has already appealed directly to the Supreme Court. I will keep pushing, keep fighting, and keep standing with every voter whose voice they’ve tried to silence.”
MIKE JOHNSON BLINDSIDED
Mike Johnson is one of the worst Speakers ever. A truly despicable monster. A Trump lapdog who does not deserve the office.
Johnson made that abundantly clear again this week when he said he was “deeply disappointed” that the US Senate voted to release the Epstein files so quickly. He truly did believe they would stall the bill. Seriously. How much stalling did he want?
Thankfully, the Senate didn’t fall into the Trump/Johnson trap. And last night, Trump finally signed the bill to release the Epstein files.
SWALWELL RIPS THE REGIME
Dem Rep. Eric Swalwell slammed Mike Johnson after the Speaker announced that he would vote to release the Epstein files—only after Trump told folks to vote for it. Swalwell responded by asking: “Daddy gave you permission??”
Yesterday, Swalwell also reminded people it won’t be like this forever. He sent a message to Kristi Noem and Tom Homan, stating: “Get to know that witness chair—you’re going to be parked in it for a long time ... Accountability is coming. You got about a year.”
As long as Dems win back the House, he’s right. But the work for all of this must start today. The recent election wins proved that momentum is on our side—and we absolutely must use it. We can’t take anything for granted. We must keep digging in.
That’s why I’m proud to lead our activism arm, The Watchdog Coalition—which has called and emailed lawmakers half a million times in the last year. And generated billions of social media impressions, while using our daily news briefs to destroy maga propaganda.
Support from everyone here is what truly keeps me going. It also helps this movement remain independent of corporate influence, because we don’t want anyone trying to sanewash or control our content.
We’ve been doing this for a decade, and we aren’t stopping now. So if you haven’t yet, support our fight against Trump by becoming a paid subscriber today:

I have three questions for you today.
What do you think about CNN refusing to settle with Trump?
If the election were held today, do you think Democrats would win the House?
What do you suspect will happen next, now that Trump signed the bill to release the Epstein Files?

Today we are focused on these three actions:
