NO KINGS PART 2

The next “No Kings” demonstrations are scheduled for October 18th, and organizers say it could be historic. Attendance is expected to surpass the massive June protests, when millions participated in thousands of events across America. More updates soon.

NEWSOM FIGHTS ELECTION INTERFERENCE

Gov. Gavin Newsom is fighting back against election interference and dark money in politics, signing bills yesterday that mark major wins for our democracy.

Newsom stated: “It’s now illegal to use contests or payments to get people to register to vote … Attempts by billionaires and outside actors to sway elections through unethical means undermine our democracy … California will not sit idle as our democracy is attacked.”

One of the bills gives voters a chance to repeal a ban on public financing in local elections by putting the issue on the ballot for 2026. This is a powerful blueprint that all governors should follow.

DC SPECIALS

On the first night of Trump’s shutdown, GOP Senators Thune and Barrasso were out enjoying a fancy steak dinner. Dem Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse responded to the news, saying: “They’re loving it. Your health care is not on their minds.”

Meanwhile, restaurants and bars across the DC area are offering special deals for federal workers and others impacted by the shutdown. Whether it’s 30% off meals, discounts on wine, or getting a free baked good with a coffee purchase, establishments in the nation’s capital are showing their solidarity.

NEW POLLS

We should always take polls with a grain of salt, but a new Washington Post poll is definitely worth taking a look at. It says 47% of respondents already blame Trump and Republicans for the shutdown, while only 30% blame Democrats.

And a new NPR/PBS News/Marist poll found that 90% of Americans want the Epstein files released in some fashion. It’s way past time to release them.

One thing is clear—these numbers are all absolutely terrible for Trump and his cult.

BERNIE AND AOC

On Wednesday, Dem Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez joined forces with Sen. Bernie Sanders to call out one of the “dirtiest tricks … being pulled on the American people right now.”

AOC stated: “Monthly insurance premiums are going to double for millions of people across the country ... and Republicans want us to rubber-stamp that.”

While Sanders said: “Right now, we’re the only major country on Earth not to guarantee health care to all people. And these guys want to make it even worse. We’re not going to let that happen.”

This is the sort of leadership we need right now. Loud, unapologetic, and relentless—which is how I’ve fought back against Trump and his accomplices for nearly a decade.
