NEWSOM WRAPS UP IN BRAZIL
CA Gov. Gavin Newsom is wrapping up his trip to Brazil, where he essentially replaced Trump at the UN’s Climate Summit. During the visit, he met with world leaders, got international press focused on clean energy, and reminded folks that most Americans support the fight to mitigate climate change.
Newsom was treated like a sitting president, with one press outlet even referring to him as the “US Democratic President.” I’m thankful Trump was a no-show—we didn’t need a climate-change denier there to make a complete mockery of everything.
Newsom said this about the trip: “We are not just sitting down, watching our globe engulfed with this climate crisis. California will keep showing up, pushing forward, and proving that a safer, more sustainable world is possible.”
BBC WON’T RELENT
The BBC is vowing not to settle if Trump follows through with his plan to sue for defamation. Trump made the threat after the network aired an edited clip of his remarks from Jan 6, 2021. BBC Chairman Samir Shah said he is “determined to fight” the multi-billion dollar threat, saying there is “no basis for a defamation case.”
This is how media in the US should have responded to Trump’s legal threats. Instead, they thought it would be better to bend the knee. Another great reminder of the importance of independent journalism—especially in America.
A NEW SCANDAL
It was uncovered that FBI Director Kash Patel’s girlfriend, country music singer Alexis Wilkins, was given a security detail via the FBI. According to reports, it consists of “elite FBI agents usually assigned to a SWAT team.”
Former Senior Agent for the FBI Christopher O’Leary slammed the move, stating: “There is no legitimate justification for this. This is a clear abuse of position and misuse of government resources.”
While Dem Rep. Jasmine Crockett said: “I’m sure MAGA can justify taxpayer dollars for all of this … I look forward to the comments on why this makes sense but making healthcare affordable doesn’t … What would you say if Joe Biden’s Administration had done it?! They are robbing the American people blind in broad daylight!”
COMEY CASE INVESTIGATED
The case against former FBI Director James Comey took a bad turn for Trump, as a federal magistrate judge scolded the DOJ for potential “government misconduct” in the case. The judge added there was a “disturbing pattern of profound missteps,” stating the Trump regime looked like its goal was to “indict first and investigate later.”
It’s now likely that the charges will be dismissed. Good.
WHAT’S NEXT ON EPSTEIN
As of now, the House will vote to release the Epstein files today. Some Republicans are trying to push it into the evening, hoping it doesn’t take up the news for the entire day. I don’t think they understand how big of a deal this is.
Dem Rep. Robert Garcia said Trump’s still “panicking and has realized he is about to lose this Epstein vote.” Garcia added: “Trump has the power to release all the files today—but instead, he wants to continue this cover-up and launch bogus new investigations ... It won’t work. We will get justice for the survivors.”
While Dem Sen. Chris Coons said what most of us are thinking: “My hunch is that Attorney General Bondi … will promptly say, ‘No, there’s an ongoing investigation, we can’t disclose any of this,’ and [Trump] will back that up.”
Garcia and Coons are right—that’s why we’re full speed ahead, putting massive pressure on all Members of Congress. In the last year, we’ve reached lawmakers more than 520,000 times on dozens of issues.
