Obama Slams Trump and More Great News
Duckworth roasts Hegseth, former US Ambassador to Ukraine runs for Congress, and more
Lies and propaganda are being spread to Americans at a constant by the Trump regime and corporate media—worse than ever before. That’s why every day I cut through their garbage to deliver the truth you deserve. Thank you for being here.
We have no billionaire bosses who can censor our work, and no advertisers making us sell snake oil. We are completely independent, which means all of our funding comes from readers like you. So if you haven’t already, please join as a paid subscriber today:
Today is Juneteenth—a day of celebration for freedom and equality. As former President Barack Obama once put it: “On Juneteenth, we commemorate the anniversary of the delayed but welcome news of freedom reaching the enslaved Black folks in Galveston, Texas.”
Obama continued: “It’s a reminder that even in the darkest hours, there is cause to hope—and a reason to keep building a country that lives up to its highest ideals.”
A “Stop the Billionaire Giveaway” Bus Tour starts this weekend, organized by Fair Share America. It’s traveling across 14 states to rally folks against Trump’s evil budget bill.
The group's leader, Kristen Crowell, said when people “turn out and demonstrate their opposition, or call or write their member of Congress, that makes a difference … We can still stop this bill.”
Legislation was introduced by California lawmakers to unmask some members of law enforcement in the state. The “No Secret Police Act” would ban law enforcement, with some exceptions, from covering their faces while interacting with the public.
CA State Sen Scott Wiener made it clear: “If we want the public to trust law enforcement, we cannot allow them to behave like secret police in an authoritarian state ... they should be proud to show their faces and provide identifying information when doing so.” Absolutely.
Former US Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink—who resigned following Trump’s Oval Office ambush of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky—just announced her run for the US House in Michigan’s 7th. The district is one of the most competitive in the country.
In Brink’s announcement, she declared: “Defending Ukraine means ensuring democracies—not dictatorships—thrive … My next mission—to fight for what’s right … To stand up to unaccountable, unelected billionaires trying to slash and burn our government.”
Yesterday, Senate Dems boycotted a hearing designed to spread propaganda about former President Joe Biden’s mental state. Dem Sen. Dick Durbin played video clips of Trump being completely unhinged, and then left the room. If you want to know how nonsensical this so-called hearing was—former Press Secretary Sean Spicer was called as a witness. That is bonkers.
Also in the Senate, failed Defense Sec. Pete Hegseth was grilled during a testimony yesterday. Dem Sen. Mazie Hirono said: “Instead of strengthening national security, you’ve turned the Pentagon into a dysfunctional mess. You are jeopardizing military operations and service members’ lives with your unprecedented action of texting classified military plans to anyone who might stroke your ego.”
Veteran and Dem Sen. Tammy Duckworth went after Hegseth hard, stating: “You are blowing through money ... you're just an unqualified yes man who can't tell the president how to keep Americans safe.” Every elected official needs to bring this kind of fire to the Trump regime.
Former President Barack Obama spoke in Hartford, CT on Tuesday night—and he did not mince words. “What we're seeing right now … is not consistent with American democracy … It is consistent with autocracies,” Obama said, stressing that there must “be people in government in both parties who say, ‘No, you can't do that.’”
Then, Obama slammed Trump: “In 2020, one person won the election and it wasn’t the guy complaining about it … And that's just a fact, just like … my inauguration had more people.”
Obama then spoke about his old mantra: “I’m still optimistic—I’m still the ‘hope’ guy … It is important to be impatient with injustice and cruelty, and there’s a healthy outrage we should be exhibiting in terms of what’s currently happening both here and around the world.”
The former president is exactly right. And that’s why, in addition to our reporting, we run one of the biggest Contact Congress campaigns out there—making countless calls and sending more than 379,000 letters.
We don’t just cover the news, we're fighting for democracy—reaching Senators and Reps. thousands of times per day, pushing back against the big ugly bill, and any GOP cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, and more.
Momentum is on our side, but we need all hands on deck. So if you haven’t already, please help fuel our efforts by becoming a paid subscriber today:
