Obama and Newsom Rally Against Trump: Pre-Election Momentum, A Major Prop 50 Push, and States Fight Back Against The GOP’s Shutdown Propaganda

NEW MEXICO LAYS A BLUEPRINT

In New Mexico, the free childcare program Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham championed started this month. It will save families around $12,000 a year. This is the first state in the US to offer free universal child care, and it shouldn’t be the last.

Grisham said New Mexico’s economy is “overperforming … You can’t stay that course unless you have a robust early childhood and child care setting … This is about investing in mothers and fathers, being able to go back to the workforce.”

STATES GIVE NOTICE

Several states are pushing back against the Trump regime for using government websites to spread propaganda, blaming Democrats for the shutdown.

California’s Social Services website reads: “The federal government has shut down due to the failures of the President and Congress to continue government funding.”

At the top of the Massachusetts SNAP page, you’ll find a banner that says: “Trump has frozen SNAP benefits.” And Pennsylvania’s website states benefits cannot be paid “Because Republicans in Washington D.C., failed to pass a federal budget, causing the federal government shutdown.”

OUT OF TOUCH

Trump is getting slammed hard for leaving DC to host a Great Gatsby-style Halloween bash at Mar-a-Lago on Friday—right as SNAP benefits were set to lapse.

It’s despicable, and the American people deserve better. Not to mention the fact that it costs taxpayers millions of dollars every time Trump leaves the White House for his Florida bunker.

CA Gov. Gavin Newsom responded, saying Trump “does not give a damn about you.” And Dem Sen. Chris Murphy said: “The way he rubs his inhumanity in Americans’ face never ceases to stun me.”

PUSH FOR PROP 50

With only a few days remaining until Tuesday’s crucial elections, Gavin Newsom hosted an event in support of Prop 50, featuring former VP Kamala Harris, Rep. Jasmine Crockett, and others. Newsom said: “We have got to be at peak on Election Day ... we cannot take anything for granted.”

“Thank you for what you’ll do over the next 72 hours,” Newsom stated, “to bring home this historic victory for democracy, for our republic, and send a message to Donald Trump: Hell no, we are done … with being treated like this.”

OBAMA BRINGS THE FIRE

Former President Obama hit the campaign trail yesterday, with his first stop in Norfolk, Virginia. He brought his A-game to support gubernatorial nominee Rep. Abigail Spanberger.

Obama slammed Trump, saying he “has been focused on critical issues like paving over the Rose Garden ... gold plating the Oval Office, and building a ballroom.” He added: “If you can’t visit a doctor, don’t worry—he will save you a dance.”

Obama also called out the GOP’s blatant racism: “They never miss a chance to scapegoat minorities and DEI for every problem under the sun. You got a flat tire? DEI. Wife mad at you? DEI.”

OBAMA CLOSES STRONG

Obama then headed to Newark, New Jersey, for a rally with gubernatorial nominee Rep. Mikie Sherrill, where he closed with this powerful message:

“All of us are being tested right now … Trump and the Republicans, they want you to think that change can only come from on high … but when you look at the history of America, real changes always come from the bottom up.”
