PROTESTING BRENDAN CARR

A protest erupted at FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr’s first open meeting since his failed attempt to remove Jimmy Kimmel from the air. People chanted “Fire Carr, the censorship czar,” while a sign language interpreter on-screen ensured the message from the demonstrators was available to all.

SUPREME COURT SURPRISE

I was genuinely shocked when I heard good news coming from the Supreme Court yesterday—for a change. Trump hoped they would let him immediately fire Federal Reserve Governor Dr. Lisa Cook. Instead, the Court chose to keep Dr. Cook in her role until at least January—when oral arguments will be held.

BESHEAR BRINGS THE FIRE

Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear slammed Trump’s unhinged rant in front of military leaders this week. On Jim Acosta’s show, Beshear called it “un-American,” and “very much like McCarthyism.” He added: “This was a direct attempt to politicize our armed forces.”

Beshear also went after Trump’s threat to fire hundreds of thousands of federal workers unless Democrats cave to his demands. Beshear said: “It’s blackmail … Like a bank robber saying … ‘I wouldn’t have robbed the bank if the security guard had stopped me.’”

JOHNSON FACT-CHECKED

Speaker Mike Johnson tried to spread his shutdown lies during live appearances on ABC and CNN this week—and it didn’t go well for him. Both hosts fact-checked Johnson’s lie about giving healthcare to undocumented immigrants in real time. Johnson grew visibly flustered, struggling to defend Trump’s shutdown.

It’s time for Johnson and his GOP to quit playing games, get back to work, and make sure health insurance costs don’t go up for countless Americans.

AOC LAYS OUT THE TRUTH

Dem Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez made it clear why Dems must not relent in the face of GOP shutdown. AOC stated that polling for Trump and Republicans is “underwater across the board, and they know it. And that is causing them to double down in public, but it is backfiring.”

AOC added: “They want us to blink first and we have too much to save.” She later said, “We now have a chance to defend the healthcare of millions of Americans … Let’s take it.”

CALLING FOR THE 25TH

IL Gov. JB Pritzker did not mince words when sharing his thoughts on Trump, saying “he’s copying tactics of Vladimir Putin … There is something genuinely wrong with this man, and the 25th Amendment ought to be invoked.”

I want to be clear: There’s virtually no chance of Trump getting removed under the 25th Amendment. But Pritzker is right to sound the alarm—and it’s encouraging to see the conversation gaining traction.
