Pritzker Fights Trump's Immigration Abuses With New Law, Regime Blocked From Deploying Troops In LA, Tennis Star Pushes Back On Wannabe Dictator, and Obama Spreads Holiday Cheer To Kids
Historic law protecting immigrants signed by Pritzker
Thank you for taking the time to read today’s news brief. I’m glad you’re here. Hopefully this brings you a bit of relief from the Trump regime’s madness—even if only for a moment.
A quick note—true independence comes at a cost. I refuse to clutter your screen with ads or bow to corporate influence, so we can always stay true to the resistance. But that means we rely entirely on folks like you to keep things going. So if you value journalism that fights back and can’t be bought, I’d be honored if you joined us as a paid subscriber today:
Let’s jump in.
OBAMA SPREADS HOLIDAY CHEER
Former President Barack Obama visited elementary students at the Chicago Public Library earlier this week. Donning a red Santa hat, he read the book “Flying Free: How Bessie Coleman’s Dream Took Flight.”
Obama then asked the kids what they wanted to be when they grew up. Some said they wanted to be doctors, and one stated they wanted to be like Obama—a great thing to aspire to.
UNION RIGHTS WILL GET A VOTE
Dem Rep. Jared Golden pulled together enough signatures to force a vote on restoring union rights for federal workers. His bill—the Protect America’s Workforce Act—seeks to repeal Trump’s executive order which stripped roughly 1 million federal workers of their right to collectively bargain.
“These workers make our country safer and stronger every day,” Golden said. “This bill gives all of us a chance to restore their voices ... together, we can overturn this union-busting executive order, and we can show America that this body will protect workers’ rights.”
JUDGE BLOCKS TRUMP IN LA
Yesterday, a judge ordered Trump to end the deployment of troops in Los Angeles.
CA Gov. Gavin Newsom responded, saying: “Today’s ruling is abundantly clear—the federalization of the National Guard in California is illegal and must end.”
While the judge stated: “The Founders designed our government to be a system of checks and balances. [The Trump Regime], however, makes clear that the only check they want is a blank one.”
A NEW NAVRATILOVA AD
As a winner of 18 Grand Slam singles titles, Martina Navratilova is truly one of the greats—and not just at tennis. Navratilova, who defected from Soviet-controlled Czechoslovakia in 1975, was a member of our Task Force that helped impeach Trump during his first term. She also did a video to support our mask-wearing campaign during Covid.
Now, Navratilova is speaking out against the Trump regime in an ad made by the group Home of the Brave. In it, Navratilova stated: “I defected from a totalitarian regime and like hell am I going to be cowed again and have to be careful about what I say … I’m so proud to be an American, but I’m embarrassed by what Trump is doing to our country.”
And then Navratilova brought more fire: “I am pissed off as hell about people capitulating to Trump—whether it’s the legal firms, or schools, politicians, or companies … Speaking out is the actual patriotic thing to do. When you see something wrong, don’t be afraid. You can find ways to make a difference.”
ILLINOIS LAW HITS BACK AT TRUMP
Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker signed a bill on Tuesday that allows immigrants to sue federal officials, bans civil arrests in or around courthouses, and mandates that law enforcement agencies, hospitals, universities, and daycares have response plans for actions taken by federal immigration agents.
Pritzker stated: “Dropping your kid off at daycare, going to the doctor, or attending your classes should not be a life-altering task ... Illinois—in the face of cruelty and intimidation—has chosen solidarity and support.”
“Donald Trump, Kristi Noem, and Gregory Bovino have tried to appeal to our lesser instincts,” Pritzker added. “But the best of us are standing up to the worst of them.”
And so are we, just like we have for the last decade. We take a sledgehammer to maga propaganda with our daily news briefs, while our Watchdog Coalition helps lead the resistance against the Trump regime. In the last year, we’ve directed 550,000 contacts to lawmakers, and generated billions of impressions on social media every month.
But the only way we keep this fight going is by remaining completely independent. Taking any corporate money would also mean accepting their censorship. And we will never let anyone silence us.
