Dem Rep. Moves To Impeach Hegseth, Grand Jury Refuses To Re-Indict Letitia James, and NY Times Sues Pentagon To Regain Access
Onward!
Thanks for reading today’s news brief. I hope it gives you some relief from the Trump regime’s chaos—even if only for a moment.

Let’s jump in.
LET THEM FIGHT
More maga infighting has erupted in Congress, and I’m all for it. On Tuesday, GOP Rep. Elise Stefanik slammed Mike Johnson, calling him a “liar,” and part of the “deep state” for trying to keep one of her unhinged provisions out of a defense bill.
“Mike Johnson is a political novice and boy does it show,” Stefanik said. “He certainly wouldn’t have the votes to be speaker if there was a roll call vote tomorrow,” adding that the GOP discontent is “that widespread.”
The feud escalated further when Stefanik signed on to GOP Rep. Anna Paulina Luna’s discharge petition, which seeks to circumvent Johnson and force a vote on banning stock trading by members of Congress.
Separately, GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene is headed for the exit a month from today—something I’ll surely be celebrating. We thoroughly investigated Greene’s role related to the Jan. 6 attack. Some of our evidence was even presented in court against her when she was sued to ban her from running for reelection back in 2022.
And GOP Sen. Rand Paul is joining forces with Democrats for a War Powers Resolution that aims to prevent Trump from unilaterally launching attacks on Venezuela. Good.
TRUMP SINKS IN NEW POLL
A new Politico poll spells enormous trouble for Republicans in the upcoming midterms. A whopping 46% of those polled said “the cost of living in the U.S. is the worst they can ever remember it being.” But the shocking part is that “37% of 2024 Trump voters agree.”
After the results in New Jersey, Virginia, and the huge swings in other recent elections, it’s clear any Republican in a competitive seat is at risk of losing it. At this point, the damage from Trump could be irreparable for his failing party. Excellent.
GRAND JURY SAYS NO
A grand jury refused to re-indict NY AG Letitia James after the case against her was thrown out by a judge. It’s a rare occurrence for grand juries to decline to indict someone, and this is a major blow to Trump’s ongoing revenge tour.
In response, James stated: “As I have said from the start, the charges against me are baseless. It is time for this unchecked weaponization of our justice system to stop.”
PRESS SUING FOR ACCESS
Pete Hegseth has been trying to push the press around ever since he became the Defense Secretary—even kicking out outlets that were critical of him. Now, The New York Times is suing the Pentagon to regain access.
The Pentagon Press Association said in a statement they were encouraged by the “effort to step up and defend press freedom.” They added: “The Defense Department’s attempt to limit how credentialed reporters gather the news ... is antithetical to a free and independent press.”
As we’ve seen in the past, Hegseth’s attempts to stifle the truth have done nothing but backfire. Most recently with the second-strike controversy that leaked out via the press.
MOVE TO IMPEACH HEGSETH
There was a rally to impeach Pete Hegseth yesterday, hosted outside Union Station in Washington, DC. Dem Rep. Shri Thanedar, who is introducing articles of impeachment against Hegseth, told the crowd: “This secretary has to go … He’s incompetent … He has committed war crimes … if Republicans are willing to look at this for the merit of this case and not just their loyalty to [Trump], this can be done.”
I’m not naive about how difficult this task is while Republicans control Congress. We know this regime has a stranglehold on the GOP, and they’ll protect that power at any cost. But we will never choose our battles based on anyone else’s lack of courage.
Some things must be said, and this is one of them. When the allegations surround war crimes and murder, silence is never an option. It’s our duty to remind the entire world that Hegseth should be removed from office.
We’ve fearlessly taken the fight to Trump and his cult for the last decade. Beyond smashing maga propaganda with our daily news briefs, our Watchdog Coalition is relentless. We’ve reached lawmakers 535,000 times via our Contact Congress campaign, and generated billions of impressions on social media. Just yesterday, for example, we trended #TrumpAffordabilityCrisis to #2 on Elon Musk’s Twitter/X.
And we do it all without any corporate money, because we only answer to our community here. That’s how we keep the lights on, and maintain maximum pressure. So if you want to help us in our fight against Trump, please join us as a paid subscriber today:
