I’ll never forget showing up at the DNC HQ in DC, wearing a suit and tie on a sweltering hot day back in 2009. I was there to help hand-deliver petitions to House offices signed by their constituents—urging them to vote yes on Obamacare.
Everyone had worked so hard, campaigning across the country to secure votes. And when it finally passed, I remember how we felt like we were on top of the world.
Then the 2010 midterms came, and Republicans eventually gained 7 Senate seats and 63 House seats. It was a bloodbath.
I remember how angry the so-called Tea Party was leading up to that election—just repeating “death panels” over, and over, and over again. And the messaging worked.
Even though Obamacare is one of the most positively impactful pieces of legislation in US history, many people didn’t see it that way back then.
But this big evil bill is not that. There are no honest explanations about how this will help the American people. There’s no wait and see. This isn’t going to get better over time.
There is no way to sugarcoat the facts: this evil bill will hurt millions of Americans in countless ways.
Yes, Republicans got the votes to pass this big evil bill. They will spend the holiday weekend taking unhinged victory laps, and lying about what they’ve done. They will shake hands at parades and picnics with the very people they are robbing. It’s beyond disgraceful.
Now, the American people must elect enough Democrats to get this bill ripped to shreds. Democrats who will investigate Trump and his regime for all the crimes they’re committing. A majority that will finally stop Trump’s unchecked chaos.
Is it terrible that this big evil bill passed? Absolutely. But we must keep plowing forward. It’s on all of us to call out Republicans for passing this big evil bill, all the way through Election Day of 2026.
We will never give in. We will never give up. We will keep delivering the truth in our daily news briefs. And we will continue to run some of the biggest advocacy campaigns on social media and via our Contact Congress efforts.
