The GOP’s Creepy Taylor Swift Obsession Must Stop
It’s time to stage an intervention. The GOP’s creepy obsession with Taylor Swift has gone too far. They’ve carried on with this for way too long.
The reasons the GOP has for lashing out range from political differences to football fanaticism, but none of them warrant their attacks against her.
I can understand why Republicans have some hurt feelings. Swift was a darling of conservative America before she left country music for pop, and began to represent and speak out for herself.
They thought she was theirs, and then she betrayed them. It actually plays just like one of her songs.
Now she thrives as a powerful, outspoken role model who has the ear of the nation. And it’s literally driving them raving mad.
Aside from lyrics, songs, and performances that Swift uses to promote equality and women’s empowerment, Swift has proudly advocated for issues that Democrats celebrate and Republicans fight against.
Not to mention the fact Swift directly criticized Trump, writing he was “stoking the fires of white supremacy and racism” his entire presidency. Swift also posted that Trump “is WELL AWARE that we do not want him as our president.” And in 2020, Swift endorsed the Biden-Harris ticket.
One thing is clear, The GOP’s anger and threats are not going to silence Taylor Swift, they will only make her, and us, stronger. I’ve always said that if you have a megaphone, it is your job to use it. Artists shouldn’t have to sit on the sidelines, and they don’t have to just shut up and sing.
We need more heroes like Taylor Swift to use their stardom to speak out and speak truth to MAGA lies. Especially because their fans listen.
Taylor Swift is the kind of leader we need in this day and age. And I’m grateful Taylor’s using her voice not just for singing, but to make a substantial difference in American politics. And there is nothing the GOP or anyone can say or do to stop her.
No matter the twisted reasons why the GOP is so angry with Taylor Swift, they need to recognize that they have an unhealthy obsession. And it needs to stop.
