With it being the end to another long week of Trump and Musk doing everything they can to harm the world, I’m happy to be able to deliver more good news for you. I hope it shows you there truly are champions among us fighting back against this madness.
A weeklong boycott of Amazon, and companies it owns like Whole Foods, begins today. This was organized by the same group who ran the “economic blackout” last Friday. Separately, there is an ongoing 40-day boycott of Target.
Today, there are Stand Up for Science rallies planned in at least 31 American cities—to protest Trump’s cuts to scientific research programs. Organizers are asking folks to “walk out of your lab, classroom, or office at 12:00 noon.”
Tomorrow, major celebrations will be held all across the world for International Women’s Day. Amnesty International’s Secretary General, Dr. Agnès Callamard, said: “We will never stop fighting for a world where women, girls and gender-diverse people are free to enjoy the full range of human rights without discrimination or fear of reprisal.”
On Monday, Indivisible is holding a Shut Down the Coup event in DC to “demand Democrats stand united and vote NO” against the government funding bill. The event’s sign up page reads: “We need to be out in droves, we need to be loud, and we need to be united.”
In addition to the growing protests and boycotts, more than 100 lawsuits have been filed against the Trump Administration since late January. Just this week, in one of the most notable decisions to date, the Supreme Court denied Trump’s request to keep billions in foreign aid frozen.
And in court yesterday, Judge Amir Ali ruled that the Administration must pay out nearly $2 billion of the foreign aid debt owed. The judge called it an “earth-shaking, country-shaking proposition to say that appropriations” made by Congress are optional. Freezing funds without getting Congressional approval, the judge said, “fundamentally undermines the distinct constitutional roles of each branch of our government.”
Also on Thursday, Judge Beryl Howell ruled that Trump’s firing of National Labor Relations Board Chair Gwynne Wilcox was “a blatant violation of the law.” The judge wrote: “The President’s excuse for his illegal act cannot be sustained.”
Prosecutors announced they won’t pursue a case against student journalist Dilan Gohill, who was arrested while covering a protest at Stanford. Gohill responded to the news, saying: “No journalist should ever have to endure a nine-month-long threat to their academic, social, and professional future for simply doing their job … I’m glad they finally realized that journalism is not a crime.”
In Congress, Leader Hakeem Jeffries called out Republicans for a resolution aimed at removing Dems from their committee spots. “You ain’t throwing no one off of any single committee,” he said. “These people are malignant clowns.” He also called GOP Rep. Andy Ogles, who drafted the resolution, a “complete and total fraud,” saying: “Don’t make me expose you to folks who don’t know you.”
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez slammed the GOP over their wrongful censure of Rep. Al Green: “For Republicans and a party that love to talk about protecting free speech ... they love to lay down the hammer in order to punish anyone whose speech they disagree with.” AOC said Republicans are “very thin-skinned and they’re very sensitive, and their feelings are very easily hurt.”
Rep. Al Green responded to the censure, saying: “And still I rise a proud, liberated Democrat, unbought, unbossed and unafraid.”
And we’re not afraid either. Our Watchdog Coalition is helping run the opposition against Trump, just like we have for the last 9 years.
Our tens of thousands of proud members have now sent more than 200,000 letters to Congress in 4 months—which is absolutely amazing. This is on top of the countless calls we’ve made to the House and Senate. We’re taking on DOGE, fighting to protect Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, the VA, and much more.
Our social media network is one of the largest in politics, and we believe it’s our responsibility to use this platform to make a difference. For example, our “Don’t Touch Our Medicaid” campaign garnered more than a billion impressions in just two weeks.
Momentum is starting to build, but now is the time when we need all hands on deck. 100% of our funding comes from our paid subscribers on Substack. We have zero billionaire backers, and no advertisers pushing us to sell magical elixirs.
So if you haven’t yet, and you’re able, please join us as a paid subscriber today:
No matter how you subscribe, thank you for being on the right side of history.
Onward!
Scott
