Even though we’re just beginning another week of the Trump and Musk horror show, I’m happy to deliver more good news today. I hope this gives you some relief, and shows you there are great people united with us in our fight against tyranny.
Under heavy storm clouds, thousands marched across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama yesterday, to mark the 60th anniversary of “Bloody Sunday.”
Fmr. President Barack Obama released this statement about the day: “60 years ago, a group of brave civil rights organizers marched ... in the pursuit of justice and equality. Today we’re reminded of their courageous sacrifices, and tasked with the responsibility of doing what we can to carry forward their work.”
Right before the march, Dem Sen. Raphael Warnock spoke to the congregation at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Selma, saying: “While they’ve got you looking over there, they’re taking your money … They say they’re looking for waste, fraud, and abuse—and they’ve got an unelected billionaire posing as co-president … it’s a high class sham.”
Rallies in support of Ukraine continued across the world, with more than 1,000 people gathering for a “Don’t Abandon Ukraine” protest outside of the White House on Saturday. Demonstrators unfurled what they labeled as the “world’s largest Ukrainian flag.” It’s 172 feet long, 110 feet wide, and weighs in at a whopping 330 pounds.
Also regarding Ukraine, Dem Rep. Jake Auchincloss went on CNN and slammed Republicans, while a GOP Rep. sat across from him. They “are not stepping up and saying the very basic sentence of ‘Ukraine is right, Russia is wrong,’” Auchincloss said. Adding that “Zelensky flew to Washington, but he walked into the Kremlin.”
Nearly 2,000 people showed up this weekend in Lakewood, CO, for a town hall hosted by Dem Rep. Brittany Pettersen. Speaking out against Trump’s mass firings, Pettersen said: “People in our community are going to be hurt by these measures … It doesn't sound like government efficiency to me.” Pettersen went on to say that folks “want to know what to do right now … you're doing the most important thing … which is showing up and fighting back.”
In Bremerton, Washington on Saturday, Dem Rep. Emily Randall decided to hold a second town hall for an overflow crowd, after the first session was packed to capacity with over 1,000 attendees. “The actions taken by OPM,” Randall said, “to purge the federal workforce of experts, watchdogs, and career civil servants, isn’t making government run more efficiently—it’s running it into the ground.”
And hundreds of people—out of a population of roughly 1,000—showed up in Belmont, Wisconsin, for an event with Dem Rep. Mark Pocan. The room was completely filled, with many more listening from outside. “If you don’t have town halls, if you don’t have ways to communicate with constituents, you’re not really doing your job,” Pocan said.
Meanwhile, GOP Senators and Reps are refusing to hold town halls with their constituents, blaming debunked conspiracy theories about attendees being paid by Democrats. Some are cowardly holding “phone-in” town halls instead—which are moderated and screened discussions, where you won’t get any real answers.
Gov. Tim Walz said Democrats should hold events where the GOP won’t, saying Republicans won’t meet with voters “because their agenda is so unpopular.” Walz also offered this: “If your congressman refuses to meet, I’ll come host an event in their district to help local Democrats beat ‘em.”
Sen. Bernie Sanders made two stops as part of his “Fight Oligarchy” tour this weekend, where more than 14,000 people gathered to participate. Dem Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez slammed Sanders’s critics who act like this tour is the beginning of a presidential campaign. “Believe it or not,” AOC said, “some people’s everyday actions aren’t motivated by some long-term career ambition, but out of a genuine love for people and a desire to do right by them.”
Lastly, JD Vance fabricated a story about him being accosted by pro-Ukraine protesters, when in reality he was the one who confronted the crowd. Vance later tried to act like he had faced some sort of danger, and was completely outraged about the encounter. Unlike corporate media, who runs with bogus stories like this, we will always cut through the lies to deliver the truth.
In addition to reporting the news, we started our activism arm—The Watchdog Coalition—to help lead the fight against Trump, like we have for the last 9 years. Our contact Congress campaign has already sent more than 205,000 letters, and made countless calls to the House and Senate.
Our social media network is one of the largest in politics, and we use it to make a difference every single day. Like with our “Don’t Touch Our Medicaid” campaign, which garnered more than a billion impressions in just two weeks. Or our “Protect Social Security” campaign, which starts this week.
We’re building true momentum, but right now we need all hands on deck.
All of our funding comes from our paid subscribers on Substack. We have no outside investors, and we remain ad-free.
So if you haven’t yet, and you’re able, please join us as a paid subscriber today:
No matter how you subscribe, thank you for everything you do.
Onward!
