He’s About To Kill Their Election Bill

Nearly two years ago now, Jefferson Griffin lost his race for the North Carolina Supreme Court. He challenged the outcome, and tried to have more than 60,000 ballots thrown out. He still lost.

A new bill in the state would make this sore loser’s playbook legal. The law would give candidates three days to challenge ballots after the polls close and would cut down early voting for primaries by seven days. In addition, it would order election offices to build a system for removing voters from the rolls—using the same federal database the government has admitted in court has flagged US citizens as noncitizens.

The bill passed the House 62 votes to 47 and went to the governor’s desk. But Dem Gov. Josh Stein says he will veto it.

Republicans will try to override that veto, but they don’t have the numbers on their own. In June, two Democrats missed a session and four of Stein’s vetoes fell that same day.

If Democrats show up, this bill is dead.

A Judge Blocked It Everywhere

Trump tried to stop the US Postal Service from delivering mail ballots this November, but on Tuesday Judge Indira Talwani blocked him in all fifty states.

Trump’s order demanded states hand over a list of everyone expecting a mail ballot, forcing the Postal Service to screen every envelope against that list before delivering it. If you’re not on the list, you don’t get a ballot.

Judge Talwani’s ruling was clear—the executive branch has no authority to regulate elections.

Millions of Americans vote by mail. All of them still can.

They’re Suing Him For Selling His Own Posts

Since August 1, Trump’s social media company has charged $100,000 a month to those who want to see what he posts before it goes public. He names companies. He announces tariffs. Get the words a few seconds early and you can trade on them before anyone else can.

More than ten firms have signed up, and now Trump’s company is looking at selling the same access to gambling sites. That way people can bet on what he’s about to announce—whether it be a war, a court challenge, or a tariff that can move the markets.

On Wednesday, The Intercept and the Freedom of the Press Foundation sued Trump in federal court over the scheme.

Rep. Jamie Raskin, who has been investigating it, was clear: Trump is “selling advance access to that market-moving information to the high bidders.” He also called the whole arrangement “the depraved essence of insider trading.”

Add this to the long list of investigations Democrats will launch into Trump if they win back the House. With the majority comes subpoena power, and subpoenas don’t ask nicely.

“A Cartoonish Bribe”

In February, Trump put a tax on almost everything coming into America.

In early June, the regime published a list of goods that would be exempt from the tax. American companies asked for—among other things—relief on medical devices, olive oil, and auto parts. Almost all of them were turned down. Diamonds didn’t make the cut either.

Isidore Mörsel chairs Belgium’s diamond trade group. It ships $2.1 billion of diamonds into America every year. On June 28 he handed the American ambassador in Brussels a gold ring set with 321 diamonds, Trump’s full legal name engraved inside.

On July 23, Trump signed off on the final list of exemptions. Diamonds were on it.

Senators Elizabeth Warren and Richard Blumenthal said it looks like “a cartoonish bribe,” and sent letters to Mörsel and the jeweler demanding to know who paid for it. They responded, without answering any of the questions.

A senator in the minority can only do so much. But if Democrats take back the Senate, they can put people under oath. In eighty-one days, we can vote to make that happen.
