One Judge Told Trump No Three Times
Donald Trump is a convicted felon, found guilty of 34 felonies. Before the election in 2016, Trump had his lawyer Michael Cohen pay adult film star Stormy Daniels $130,000 to stay quiet about an encounter she said they had. In 2017, Trump paid Cohen back and wrote it off in his company’s books as legal fees.
Twelve jurors spent six weeks hearing the case, and they convicted Trump on every count. Ever since, Trump’s tried to undo it.
Trump has asked three times to move his case out of New York and into federal court—he’s been told no by the same judge three times. If the case was moved into federal court, he could argue presidential immunity there. Trump says that argument erases his conviction.
Judge Alvin Hellerstein is 92 years old. Bill Clinton put him on the bench in 1998. He could’ve retired 15 years ago, but he’s still working. On Friday, Hellerstein denied Trump again.
Trump only tried again when it was obvious the state judge was going to rule against him. Hellerstein wrote that he can’t seek a win in one court, then run to another when that court turns on him. Paying off an adult film star is not presidential business—neither is covering it up.
Thirty-four felony convictions. Still there, because a 92-year-old who could be on a beach keeps showing up to work and telling Trump no.
They Wouldn’t Let Her Register. Now They Have To.
Peggy Dutcher is a retired elementary school teacher who spent 38 years in the classroom. She walked into an Ohio license bureau last September holding her passport. She had just moved to the state, and told the clerk she wanted to register to vote before the next election. She was worried she wouldn’t get it done in time.
That clerk turned Peggy away. Her Social Security card still had her old name on it, so under an Ohio law passed last spring she couldn’t get a license. No license meant no voter registration either. He never mentioned any other way to sign up. She just went home thinking she couldn’t register to vote unless she had a license.
Republicans in Congress want this nationwide—it’s the whole idea behind the SAVE Act, which does nothing but disenfranchise voters.
Two groups, Red Wine & Blue and the Ohio Alliance for Retired Americans—with 253,000 members—joined forces and took Ohio to court over the law.
One interaction from June stuck out to me in the court files. Judge Solomon Oliver Jr. asked the state’s lawyer whether a signature was all that was required by federal law to register to vote. “Yes,” the lawyer said.
That was all Ohio had. Last Tuesday, Judge Oliver blocked the law. The license bureau is now required to offer the form when you come to the counter—even if you don’t leave with a license. Ohioans have until October 5 to register.
Peggy Dutcher could've gone home and let it all go. Instead, she signed her name onto a sworn statement and let the state's lawyers question her under oath. A 38-year teacher, still teaching.
A Judge Is Sitting On Freedom Fuel’s Money
On July 1, Trump got on Truth Social and took a bow. “Just as I promised, Oil Prices are plummeting FAST, and Gas Prices at the pump are dropping too,” he wrote, before announcing that a “VERY smart Retailer” was opening 25 Freedom Fuel stations around Philadelphia. They were doing it, he said, because they love the USA. Stations opened at $3.47 a gallon, a wink at Trump being the 47th.
Trump never named who the retailer was, and never explained the math. No one in the gas station business could either. The price was below not just the market, but below what the gas cost them to buy. The company had registered in Delaware eight days earlier, and the photo Trump posted had all the telltale signs of being AI, right down to the blurry nonsensical letters on the station’s sign.
Only seven weeks later, a Georgia fuel supplier, Mansfield Oil, filed a federal lawsuit over it. The company says a distributor called KRSM took 150 truckloads off its account from a terminal outside Philadelphia. They then sold some of it through gas stations flying the Freedom Fuel flag.
That’s 1,124,594 gallons at a cost of $3,998,868.46—and Mansfield claims no one has paid for it. KRSM’s approved credit line was for $150,000. They are calling it a billing dispute, while the White House says they’ve never dealt with the company.
On Friday, Judge Gerald McHugh ordered KRSM to keep at least $2,750,000 in the bank. And for now, a judge must sign off before any money moves.
Only 25 gas stations in one corner of Pennsylvania, selling below cost—and right before the Fourth, Trump used it to act like gas prices were low everywhere. He spread his propaganda, which was probably the point.
Delaware Made Big Tech Pay Its Own Bill
Yesterday Trump got on Truth Social and said that anyone who doesn’t want a data center in their town must “want to end up being backwards and poor.” He added that China “could not be happier with this anti Data Center movement.”
Read the room, Donald. A Fox News poll from last month found 70% don’t want a data center near them—60% of Republicans said the same.
Last Wednesday, Delaware Gov. Matt Meyer went to AARP’s state office in Wilmington, where he signed four bills. Three of them put data centers in their own billing category, make them produce or buy every watt they burn within ten years, and strip their tax credits for jobs they never created. The fourth caps what electric companies can bill households.
Big Tech now has to pay for the power they use there, instead of it being dumped onto the community they’re sucking dry. With this new law, if they cause a grid to strain, they’re forced to cut back first unless they bring their own power.
Delaware isn’t alone. Oklahoma passed a law in May making data centers pay for their own power lines. It passed unanimously among all members present, both parties. Greg Abbott told Texas regulators to do the same thing. Two red states, doing exactly what Trump just mocked.
New York, New Jersey, Illinois, Arizona, and Virginia all moved too. Kathy Hochul, Mikie Sherrill, JB Pritzker, Katie Hobbs, and Abigail Spanberger—five Democratic governors who also moved against data centers.
Meyer said Delaware won’t ask “working people, seniors and small businesses to pick up their tab.” He signed it standing in the seniors’ lobby. That’s what it looks like when somebody actually works for you.
The Trump regime doesn’t want you to ever see news about their losses or corruption. Corporate media is more than willing to give up coverage so they can keep access to the White House. And that’s why we need truly independent media who won’t be bullied by Trump—or anyone.
