Renee Good’s Family Isn’t Going Away
Donna Ganger is a registered Republican who voted for Trump. On Tuesday, joined by her son Brent, she went to Capitol Hill and asked members of Congress for what her family has wanted since an ICE agent killed her daughter, Renee Good, in Minneapolis in January. “Thoughts and prayers are not enough,” she said. “We need action. We need accountability.”
There’s a path to that accountability now. Minnesota sued the regime in March to pry the evidence loose, and in July the feds handed over a trove from three Minneapolis shootings, including Good’s. It includes body camera footage and the car she was driving. Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty, the prosecutor handling the case, has said her office now has the evidence it needs to decide on charges. The ICE agent who killed Renee Good could still be charged under Minnesota law.
They weren’t the only families pushing. Stella Carlson testified too. Her video blew up the regime’s false story about Alex Pretti, an ICU nurse killed by federal agents in Minneapolis weeks after Good. Families of two Texas men killed by immigration agents testified, as did a lawyer for the family of a man killed in Maine.
Rep. Robert Garcia laid out what accountability should look like: body cameras, real warrants, independent investigations, and prosecutions. He and Sen. Richard Blumenthal invited their Republican colleagues. Not one came.

NC Republicans Rigged The Envelope. Voters Sued.
Raquel Nelson is 19, goes to college in Greensboro, and doesn’t have a car. With the early voting site on her campus closed this year, she planned to vote by mail. On Tuesday she joined a federal lawsuit to make sure that ballot counts.
On September 4—the same day ballots started going out—the new Republican majority on North Carolina’s election board rewrote the rules. Now, if the small envelope inside a mail ballot packet isn’t sealed, the ballot gets thrown out even when the outer envelope is sealed. A voter can’t fix it and has to start again with a new ballot, if there is still time left.
Counties also have to match each signature to the voter’s name, with almost no guidance on how. When the state tested signature matching in 2024, one county found that 23 of the 24 ballots its software flagged were fine. The average age of those voters was 67.
An unsealed flap doesn’t make anyone less eligible to vote. The board itself told a federal court in 2024—before Republicans took over—that tossing ballots that “failed to arrive inside of two sealed envelopes would have violated” federal civil rights law.
One board said it would be illegal. The next one made it the rule.
Trump already lost a fight like this one. When he tried to use the Postal Service to choke off mail ballots this summer, NC Attorney General Jeff Jackson joined the states that sued. A federal judge blocked it, and on September 14 the Supreme Court refused to bring it back. Raquel Nelson and the other voters suing are asking a federal court to do the same to North Carolina’s new rules.
California Makes Data Centers Pay Their Own Bills
On September 14, Trump called Nvidia’s CEO while he was onstage at a tech conference and, over speakerphone, told the crowd data centers are “the oil of the next 20, 25 years.” The catch is the power bill. In a lot of places, the cost of new power lines for data centers can end up on everyone else’s power bills.
On Monday, Gov. Gavin Newsom signed seven laws that put new rules on data centers. Three of them order state regulators to make data centers pay for the grid upgrades they need instead of passing the cost to families. And before a town approves a new one, developers will have to disclose how much water it’s expected to use.
State Sen. Steve Padilla said the laws stop “Big Tech from sticking California families with the bill for their data centers.”
Hundreds of cities have already banned these projects or pulled back approvals, and 7 in 10 Americans told Gallup they don’t want one in their community. “The atmosphere has changed,” said Assemblymember Diane Papan, who wrote two of the bills.
Last week, the House passed a bill that only asks states to consider doing this. California made it law.
DoorDash Stiffed 260,000 Workers. Now It Pays.
Rosendo Tacam, a delivery worker from Queens, says DoorDash cut him off in 2023 and never paid him for his last week of work. He didn’t let it go. He joined the delivery workers’ group Los Deliveristas Unidos, filed a complaint with New York City, and dozens of coworkers did the same.
On Tuesday, Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s administration announced DoorDash will pay $131.5 million—the largest settlement ever for food delivery workers in the United States. More than 260,000 workers split over $115 million. Paid late? Get about double what you were owed. Never paid? Get about triple. Nobody has to file a claim.
“Simply put, we screwed up,” the company said.
Now DoorDash will have someone overseeing its practices and watching how they pay. The city and worker groups are developing an app that lets workers share what DoorDash shows them about their trips and wages. That way the city can catch the next underpayment quickly if it ever happens again. DoorDash is barred from punishing anyone who uses the app.
Tacam said seeing delivery workers get justice “is proof that when we organize, we can make companies respect us.” Emails telling workers what they’re owed start going out in late October. They told you billion-dollar companies always win. A delivery worker in Queens and a stack of complaints just proved them wrong.
