Six Protesters Beat Trump. Now His Prosecutor’s Talking.
Last fall, Trump’s prosecutors in Chicago tried to make felons of six people who protested outside an ICE facility—among them a congressional candidate and a village trustee. The grand jury, the everyday citizens who decide whether to charge someone, said no. A second try went nowhere. Then US Attorney Andrew Boutros went in and talked to the grand jurors himself, and the third try got charges.
Every charge is gone now, dismissed for good. Last week the lead prosecutor, Sheri Mecklenburg, retired “under protest,” writing that Boutros personally directed the felony prosecution “over my objection.”
The DOJ calls her claim “false.” So I read the regime’s own court papers. An August brief with Boutros’s name on it admits “mistakes were made” and says “the United States Attorney made the local decision to charge.” Mecklenburg’s filing says she went back to the grand jury only after “the instruction to do so from the U.S. Attorney.” She admits she “should not have vouched” for the case. The DOJ can argue about whether she objected. Its own brief already says whose call the felony was.
On Thursday, the judge hears arguments on punishing the prosecutors and bringing in an outside investigator. Mecklenburg wants to have a say.
The regime tried to make an example of six protesters. It made an example of itself.
Trump’s Own Judge Held The Regime In Contempt
E.L.A., as court papers call him, came to America alone at 16 and asked for asylum. A court settlement says young people like him can’t be deported while their asylum case is still open.
The regime deported him to El Salvador anyway this spring. It later admitted he was protected and brought him back in August. Less than four weeks later, it put him on a plane to El Salvador again. His lawyers say ICE left him at the airport “dressed in a uniform issued by the detention center.”
The regime’s own paperwork shows how it happened. ICE had just ordered its officers to check their records before deporting people who might be protected. Days later, a supervisor had the note saying E.L.A. was protected removed from his file, because his case was supposedly closed. The regime later told the judge his case “has not been closed.”
Judge Stephanie Gallagher, a Trump appointee, demanded to know: “Who was responsible for the decision to place ELA on a plane to San Salvador?”
On Friday, she ruled against Trump’s regime. She held it in contempt for breaking her orders. It has to bring him back if he wants to come, and return what it took from him. And it can never sneak him out again: any new attempt to deport him means warning the court a week ahead.
The regime called it “communication errors.” Gallagher called it contempt.
Colorado Sends The Election Deniers Packing
For two years, an election-denial group called United Sovereign Americans told a federal court that Colorado’s voter rolls were full of errors. It warned the state would run its 2026 election “under the same inaccurate and flawed conditions.” Their only proof was numbers they added up themselves.
On September 21, US District Judge Regina Rodriguez tossed the case. She found the complaint to be “completely devoid of factual allegations” on how Colorado actually cleans up its rolls—something federal law asks states to do. She called the claims “threadbare recitals,” noting the group’s numbers might be counting the same votes twice. Its own complaint even conceded that it “could be a troublesome burden” proving it had any right to sue.
That’s the MAGA play now. File early so they can plant doubt about the count before a single ballot is even cast—then cry fraud later. This group keeps losing. It has also struck out in Maryland, Pennsylvania and Texas. And it’s not just fringe groups. Even the Justice Department went after Colorado’s voter rolls, demanding voters’ private information, and lost. It’s lost the same fight all over the country. As Washington’s attorney general, Nick Brown, put it: “Trump’s DOJ is now 0 for 25 nationwide.”
Judge Rodriguez gave the election deniers until October 8 to find some facts. They’ve had two years.
300,000 Missourians Beat Trump’s Rigged Map
Trump wanted one more House seat out of Missouri: Rep. Emanuel Cleaver’s in Kansas City, which he’s held since 2005. So last year Republicans split the city three ways and stretched his district nearly 200 miles into rural Missouri.
Missourians didn’t take it. A group called People Not Politicians gathered more than 300,000 signatures to force a statewide vote on the new map. On September 3, the Missouri Supreme Court ruled unanimously that the gerrymander “never took effect.” In Cleaver’s words, “the people fought back and won.”
Three times this month, the US Supreme Court refused to let Missouri Republicans use their map anyway, and Friday’s ruling came without a single noted dissent. “The election is not merely upcoming; it has already started,” the justices wrote. Switching now “would usher in electoral chaos.”
One of the Republicans who sued to force the new map was state Sen. Rick Brattin, Trump’s pick to run against Cleaver. He fumed that the state’s judges were “doing whatever the hell they want to do.” Now he runs in the district Cleaver has carried with at least 60% in each of his last two races.
The seat Trump had them build for him? Gone.
