Trump’s Week Is Already Ruined By This Great News
“Nope” to Trump: Cities, celebs, and more fight the free-speech crackdown
While chaos reigns in the White House, I’m glad to deliver something better for you today. I hope it gives you some relief from the madness, and proves that folks everywhere are pushing back hard alongside us against this tyranny.
Everything we do is 100% funded by our awesome community on Substack. That means no corporation can cancel us, and no advertisers can push us to sell snake oil. So if you want to help us turn up the pressure against the Trump regime, please become a paid subscriber today:
PROTECTING PROTESTERS
Last week, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson signed a ‘Right to Protest’ executive order to push back against Trump’s abuses of power in the city. The order directs local police to work with protest organizers to safeguard their rights.
Johnson said: “Chicago will remain a place where democracy and freedom reign … where all residents and visitors can peacefully assemble, petition their government, and speak freely in our city.”
THE NOPE ACT
Democratic members of the House and Senate crafted legislation called the No Political Enemies (NOPE) Act, to protect individuals and organizations from politically motivated harassment or prosecution by the Trump regime. The bill seeks to reaffirm our constitutional rights to free speech and public participation.
Sen. Chris Murphy made it clear that since Trump took office, he “has engaged in a relentless campaign to silence dissent ... Congress has an obligation to protect the American people.”
Rep. Maxwell Frost said: “The NOPE Act is about strengthening the laws that protect the people from any and all administrations that fear the truth and fear democracy.”
SHERRILL DOMINATES DEBATE
The New Jersey gubernatorial election is only six weeks away, where Dem Rep. Mikie Sherrill is facing off against Trump-loving Jack Ciattarelli. In Sunday’s debate, Sherrill won by a landslide—it wasn’t even close.
Sherrill was sharp, genuine, and great on the issues. Ciattarelli droned on, defended Trump, and continued to back the big evil bill.
KIMMEL BACK ON TONIGHT
After intense public pressure, Disney agreed to put Jimmy Kimmel back on the air starting tonight. Prior to ABC’s announcement, the company faced protests as well as mass cancellations of streaming services, vacations, and more.
On top of that, more than 400 prominent celebrities—including Tom Hanks, Regina King, Maya Rudolph, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Meryl Streep, and others—signed on to an open letter denouncing Kimmel’s suspension. The letter reads: “This is the moment to defend free speech across our nation. We encourage all Americans to join us.”
Sinclair and Nexstar, who own dozens of ABC-affiliate stations, are still refusing to air the show. But one thing is certain—Kimmel’s monologue tonight will likely be his most-watched ever.
THE LONE DEMOCRAT
The only Democratic commissioner on the FCC, Anna Gomez, spoke out against Trump’s assault on free speech. Gomez said that Jimmy Kimmel’s suspension “is the clearest and most alarming attack on the First Amendment and free expression by our government in recent memory.”
After the announcement that Kimmel would be back on air, Gomez stated: “I am glad to see Disney find its courage in the face of clear government intimidation … It will continue to be up to us as citizens to push back against this Administration’s growing campaign of censorship and control.” It sure will.
This is the threat that we face—Trump’s extremism like this becoming normalized. We must fight it—relentlessly, publicly, and without compromise.
Trump can’t cancel us or buy our silence, because we don’t have advertisers or corporate bosses who can make us kiss his ring. That’s how we’ve been able to build one of the largest grassroots operations ever to take on Trump.
We’re building real momentum, but we need all hands on deck. So if you haven’t yet, please become a paid subscriber today:

Good on Chicago. I want local law enforcement standing up for us—and not for the overreaching, corrupt, federal forces that are led by a convicted felon that can't even pronounce the word "acetaminophen."
