I’ve had more than enough of the Musk and Trump chaos for the week—so I’m happy to deliver some good news to everyone today. I hope it gives you at least a bit of relief, and shows you we are never alone in this fight against tyranny.
Let’s start with the fact that Trump’s stock is tanking, down 32% in the last month, while his play with a meme coin is down 78% since it launched.
A committee hearing in the Tennessee House was shut down by protesters yesterday, as racist Republicans are trying to pass a law refusing to enroll undocumented students. Opponents of the bill filled every seat in the room, while hundreds more gathered in the hallway.
After members voted, protesters chanted “Let us learn!” and “If they don’t drop it, shut it down!” One organizer told the crowd, “We are definitely going to be back, this is not the end of our fight. This is not the end of our struggle.”
Republicans lost their majority in the Minnesota state house Tuesday night, when Democratic-Farmer-Labor candidate David Gottfried trounced his opponent by 40% in a special election. Dems in the state legislature have been fighting for months to block the House GOP agenda, and this huge win makes their job even easier.
A federal appeals court left in place a block on Trump’s unlawful birthright citizenship order. New Jersey AG Matthew Platkin, who is leading the case, said: “We are thrilled with the First Circuit’s decision, and we look forward to standing up for our birthright citizens no matter how far the Trump Administration takes this case.” Platkin added that every court who has reviewed the birthright order, has labeled it “flagrantly unconstitutional.”
We’re seeing more Trump supporters beginning to openly regret voting for him. Ryleigh Cooper, who was fired by the US Forest Service in February, said of her vote for Trump: “I made a decision that, looking back, I am not proud of.” And Jennifer Piggott, who was fired from the Treasury Dept., said she would not have supported Trump if she had foreseen “the devastation this administration would bring to our lives.”
Even some members of the corporate media are deciding to speak out. Senior economics reporter at CNBC, Steve Liesman, said of Trump’s nonsensical tariffs: “I’m gonna say this at risk of my job,” but what Trump “is doing is insane.”
Sen. Mark Kelly slammed Elon Musk again for absurdly calling him a traitor. “I served in the United States Navy for 25 years,” Kelly said. “I spent 15 years at NASA, risking my life flying the space shuttle. And the only oath I can think of that maybe Elon Musk has sworn is an oath to his own checking account, to his pocketbook—an oath, maybe, to ruining the lives of Veterans.”
On Thursday at 7pm in New Jersey, fmr Dem Rep. Tom Malinowski will be hosting a town hall meeting—since the sitting GOP Rep. Tom Kean won’t. Malinowski’s invite reads that Kean “refuses to hear his constituents’ concerns … remaining invisible in both Washington and his district.” I think we will see a lot more Democrats stepping up to do events like this.
During a White House propaganda session yesterday, reporter Josh Boak from The Associated Press called out Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt for lying about tariffs.
When Boak asked why Trump was imposing “tax hikes in the form of tariffs,” a flustered Leavitt responded with another lie—saying that “tariffs are a tax cut for the American people.” Boak quickly shot back with, “I’m sorry, have you ever paid a tariff? Because I have. They don’t get charged on foreign companies, they get charged on importers.”
This is exactly how all journalists should treat this corrupt administration. You can always count on us to cut through their lies, and give you the truth. Because we are independent, pro-democracy journalists who will never give Trump or his cult an inch.
In addition to reporting the news, we’re fighting back against the Musk-Trump mayhem each and every day. Our activism arm—The Watchdog Coalition—has already sent more than 210,000 letters, and made countless calls to the House and Senate.
Our social media following is one of the largest in all of politics, and we’re using it to make sure we’re never just preaching to the choir. Just yesterday, we ran our “Republican Cuts Hurt Veterans” messaging campaign, which trended on social media—even on Twitter/X.
We’re defending Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security, while taking on DOGE, and so much more. Momentum is starting to build, but we need all the help we can get.
100% of our funding comes from our paid subscribers on Substack. We have no unhinged billionaires refusing to publish our stories, and we remain ad-free.
So if you haven’t yet, and you’re able, please join us as a paid subscriber today:
No matter how you subscribe, I can’t thank you enough for your support.
Onward!
