I get so frustrated when folks talk about Dem candidates in 2028. How much more prepared for the job could anyone be?? Misogyny and racism flourish in the year 2024 in these US of A 😖

Yes. That would be good too. Who would you see in today's political landscape? AOC. I do like her and think she does a great job for her constituents. She may be like Bernie, too liberal for many dems? What do you think?

I appreciate the conversation but I’m unimpressed when folks can’t be bothered to read thru the comments you are responding to.:

At the risk of bringing fury down upon my head, I think it artificially narrows the list of potential candidates to prioritize gender. Additionally, attributing the same view to "all" (men, in this case) is a disservice to the brave and principled individuals who have defied injustice. Evaluating possible candidates on their integrity, values and courage is likeliest to ensure the best choice.

Expand full comment
Christy's avatar

As long as we have a great candidate I have ZERO problem prioritizing Kamala Harris because she is the current VP and will likely be the best person to run the country in 2028 based on these past 3 1/2 years. Of course the next four years in office might tell a different story.

This is a helluva lot different than prioritizing just any woman simply because of their gender. I have no fury over anything slightly related but your comment does feel as if you are trying to create a gender issue where there isn’t one. Women have only been deprived of their seat at the table in Western culture for centuries and it’s way past time for that to get fixed!

She could be good. Joe needs to make sure she is given more leadership opportunites so she can shine. He barely used her the first year or so, then threw her to the wolves sending her to the border to handle that. But they are getting better and she has started to show her strengths as an intelligent, compassionate VP. So yes, she would do well.

She didn't just go to the border. She has been working with the countries that are causing the problems that make their citizens flee. That's a huge challenge that Joe has given her. Republicans don't want to hear it. They actively ignore it because it doesn't fit their narrative. MSM, you, too.

Dan's avatar

I will vote Democrat in every race and never vote Republican again, I don’t care if my brother is running. People always complain that the two parties need to compromise, but each party has to come together themselves. The Republicans have done that. They have come together around an orange idol and are touting his harsh agenda every day. The Democrats need to coalesce around a central, positive platform and push it every day on all the media and push for sensible laws to cure some of our ills. I’d they can’t do this, then we will all fall prey to the false god of the other party.

My lack of support for VP Harris running as president has nothing to do with her gender or race. I’m tired of corporate Democrats and would really love to finally have a true progressive POTUS.

Also I cannot perceive your comment as thoughtful nor sincere after all that Biden/Harris have accomplished of the progressive agenda. Calling them corporate Democrats rings very hollow.

You obviously know my mind better than I do, Christy (sarcasm). I was very sincere and as thoughtful as I can be. Sorry that doesn't meet your standards. Yes, B/H have given us more progressive agenda items than I guessed they would three years ago. They both have a strong history backing the corporate side of the coin and could do more for the people. Maybe once they get re-elected and have a (D) House and Senate we'll see more. I hope we do.

One might look at the last 10 years and recognize that a Bernie Sanders type candidate cannot get a plurality of votes in our current culture. We have some serious countering to decades, if not centuries of brainwashing around corporatism versus socialism before we’ll succeed there.

Pockets of people on the outer extremes playing tug of war is disruptive. We need people to come to the middle and help move us all towards a better place. When you climb a mountain you can’t just fly to the top, you have to do the work.
