Hear, hear! For a long time I didn't donate to any national Democratic Party organizations, but more recently I've been donating to the DGA (Democratic Governors Association) and the Democratic Association of Secretaries of State (DASS). What won me over is that their members are based in the states, not "inside the Beltway." It doesn't surprise me that they and their members are helping lead the resistance to Trump II.

What I think about Newsom? When Mayor of SF he visited my K-5 computer lab. He met with 3rd graders... He was interested in each of them, engaged and listening... He stayed longer than our planned mtg because the kids had a lot of good questions. He took time, with respect and interest. Watching his interactions, I could tell he must be a great Dad .. Students felt important and empowered... He's showing up again on a larger platform, my impression of him has not waivered...

I'm glad he's doing what he's doing. Most likely he has a presidential run in mind. That's fine: as the competent governor of a huge and complex state, he's got the qualifications. What concerns me is all the well-meaning people who jump on the bandwagon for any public figure who says good stuff (i.e., stuff they agree with). I wish more of us knew more about how government works and what it takes to be a good governor, or legislator, or cabinet secretary.

Come to think of it -- Trump II may be doing the country a service by demonstrating what abysmally incompetent and/or corrupt "leadership" looks like. Here's hoping we learn from the experience.

As seen with Trump what really matters is who the leader puts around him/herself and whether they take the expert advice. Given the success of California’s government I’d say Newsome doesn’t micromanage, it’s too big a state to do that. He is a little slick and the fact that he was once married to Kimberly Guilfoyle gives me pause but I can live with that if he successfully pushes back on Trump.

What we've needed for months is a central spokeperson for the opposition - and no Democrat has yet filled that need - lots of good ones speaking out, but no central message with all the required medial attention - now Gavin is becoming that person. Our local Indivisible pop-up protest group moved our regular Fri. afternoon street-corner protest to a bridge that crosses over the Interstate in honor of Visibility Brigade's "Be Brave Day". Instead of using their suggested message " Be Brave With Us" we went for something more irreverent:

" GRAB HIM BY THE EPSTEIN FILES"

One of our members with graphic arts skills created the sign. Each neon-yellow letter was on it's own piece of black foam board except for "the" which was in smaller letters diagonally on one board. Letters within the same word were connected by velcro cable ties so that we didn't need one person for each letter. When it was spread out, the sign extended over 40 feet! It was definitely visible to th traffic below!!

We had around 25 people - half of them were our usual Friday afternoon crowd, the others were new faces for me. I think they usually protested elsewhere on different days of the week. The extra people who showed up held signs facing traffic on the bridge or waved big big American flags. All in all it was a good turnout especially considering that the "feels like" Temperature was 103F when we got started.
