We're not looking back, no time to waste. We did great this weekend folks, but the real fight is ahead.

Jump in resisters, we're going winning!

WooHoo! I am on board, Sam!

I’m on board May 1! You bet I am!

I’m retired so I already will be stating home. I will NOT purchase anything online or at a brick and mortar store on May 1st

I'm with you Mary!!

What about Dr. appointments?

Robot Bender's avatar

I think those should be excepted, as should be dental appointments.

In theory, I'm okay with a general strike, but there are too many people who don't have the option to walk off the job without being fired. I'd have preferred to see a two-day "no buy" protest. Many more people could participate, and making money is all our alleged leaders care about.

I think a no buy strike is a great idea 😃 - but for longer than 2 days.

Just keep it up as long as you can, and keep being aware that everything you buy matters. Many of us try to avoid all big corporate stores, and buy small and local.

Yes. This is a good point. I'd support this as well.

Yes, I agree.

We are facing true danger. Striking is a simple way to show unity and defiance.

Most people’s health insurance is tied to their job. Many cannot stay home from work without causing problems with their employer.

Jeanne Cipollini's avatar

It’s really a difficult choice and we are in really difficult times. It only works if everyone does it. An employer won’t fire its entire workforce if they all strike. But if only a few do it, then they are susceptible to problems with their employer, yes.

As an example, my daughter works for an auto parts company where all of her bosses are trumpers. If she didn’t turn up on May 1st she would be questioned. She could take PTO if she has any available.

Jeanne Cipollini's avatar

It could be really difficult for her. She wouldn't want to risk her job. In her example, she might want to stay at work. But maybe they wouldn't get any orders that day. If she asks for PTO and they grant it, then that would be the best solution. No company can dictate what a person uses PTO for

General strike is the right step, but it needs to be sustained for more than one day if we are going to get the administration’s attention.

Please see my response to Deb, above.

Proud of the Choctaw Nation. My daughter and her family live there. OSDA!! ✊🏽

And YES on May 1.

I mean HELL, yes!

Miss a day of work? You don’t have to ask me twice! 😂

No seriously, count me in!

Peggy Freeman's avatar

Go for it, Ms Jonington! You rock!

jane O'Reilly's avatar

absolutely yes, striking.

Michele Reader's avatar

Yep. I am officially taking PTO that day (I have a lot and need to use it), but also will not spend a single penny.

Question: For the general strike on May 1st, will we be supporting small businesses that are independently owned and operated?

Wis's avatar

If I *have* to buy something that day, that’s where I’d go. If I worked at a small business, I might talk to the business owner (my boss, essentially) what their thoughts were about it and if the business might just shutter the windows for a day.

Cheryl Johnson's avatar

I would suggest supporting small businesses before and after the one-day strike and encourage them to close that day like they did in Minnesota.

Peggy Freeman's avatar

That is a great question, Jeanne! If I did need something on that day (not that I would) I would go to a small, independently owned and operated business.

Al Bellenchia's avatar

This so needs to happen. Vote with your pocketbooks.

Carol's avatar

I’m retired, but I’ll do everything I can to support the strike!

Sondra's avatar

I'm retired and 83. I don't work but I do shop. On May first I will not spend any money as my participation in a "NO WORK DAY".
