Thank you for this link; I’ve chosen to use it for writing the members in the red state I spend half the year in our family home. The other half is a blue state.
As a senior, I no longer have a living dad but if I was to personify what a dad should do and say, I would say Barack Obama has the qualities I admire. He courteous, kind, well spoken, humble, talented!
My own dad, a World War II veteran, as he put it, just a grunt. But a grunt who earned a bronze star as an army guy in the Pacific and some of the worst fighting on some of those islands. It wasn’t very big but he was tough, except he had a heart so big he would often cry!
Holy cow, Scott. I always cry at the good news. I cry with relief imagining the regime can be stopped by the good people of this country, and I cry with hope that the regime WILL one day be over. Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers out there!
You asked us to leave a comment about who we’re thinking about on this Fathers Day.
My dad was the best father. I only had him for 20 years. I’m 72 now and miss him just as much. He was honest, charitable, strong and steadfast. He did not lie, ever; and taught my brother and myself how important it is to know what our government is doing. We read the paper daily, watched Walter Cronkite each evening and even as kids we were always informed. Dad died in 1973. Watergate was the news of the day. Even fighting death, dad wanted me to understand the importance of us working together to avoid anything this bad from ever happening again. (Yet we have a despicable man destroying our freedom more each day.)
Of course we played, went to school, had music class and vacations, so much more too but; nothing has served me as well as daddy teaching me the importance of my vote. I could easily write a book.
My dad’s work was to serve as the VP of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees for the Southeastern Region. He was a union official for the Railroad. He began work at age 14 as a welders helper. Dad climbed the ladder the hardest way possible.
His kindness to others, love of country and family were beautiful gifts.
Thank you for the Sunday “relief” everyone needs in between the chaos and propaganda, Scott,! I appreciate that we can always count on you for reliable information when we need it most! 🌹❤️
PS…so lucky you got to stand by President Obama during that joyful and momentous occasion! Miss the Obamas dearly 🥺
Can you explain how the towns took action to stop removal of the scientific equipment in the ocean? I often read that the public had a huge outcry. What does that mean? Did they call the representatives, did they make a human wall on the beach? I’m really trying to understand how we, the public can be effective.
It was a multi-pronged approach on multiple fronts. Lots of people contacted Congress. That was the main pressure point for sure. Scientists did a PR campaign doing interviews on local and national news. State and local officials applied direct pressure. Oregon’s bipartisan Legislative Coastal Caucus sent a formal letter to the NSF on June 17—the day before the reversal—urging them to halt the removals. There was an international push too with the EU announcing them expanding ocean monitoring which led to more pushback. All that pressure is what gave Merkley and Murkowski the standing to move their bill (the “Save Our Sensors” / Saving the OOI Act), which passed the Senate by unanimous consent on June 17. The NSF reversed the next day.
Exactly. These successful sorties against the Trump-Oligarch regime should be the battle plans in our tool chests around the country to combat every evil act they throw at “we the people.”
My Dad is on my mind this Fathers Day, even though he's been gone for more than 20 years. He married my mother, a widow with a toddler and an aging mother who could no longer work, but took care of me, while Mom worked. He took us all, and we were his family until the day of his death. He was a bit of an Archie Bunker, but loved his country, and was proud of fighting for her, in WWII. He would have spat in the face of the cowardly quisling who is now in the Oval Office.
He worked hard, and taught his grandchildren a work ethic they have not forgotten. He grew the most delicious yellow and green beans in our backyard garden. He loved me and I loved him. He wasn't rich, or famous, or influential in the world. Just a hard working guy with a lunch box - bologna sandwiches every day, because that's what he liked. I still love you, Dad, and I still miss you, even though I am now old and ready to go, myself.
Donald Trump has nominated his former personal lawyer, Todd Blanche, to become Attorney General of the United States.
Let’s be clear about what that means: Donald Trump wants the public servant charged with enforcing our laws to work for him alone — not the American people.
That's unacceptable.
As Ranking Member of the House Oversight Committee, I've spent months fighting for transparency, accountability, and answers from this administration. The last thing America needs is another Trump loyalist running the Justice Department.
So I'm asking you to take a stand with me and add your name to my grassroots petition demanding that Todd Blanche be FIRED immediately. Can I count on you to add your name?
The Department of Justice should be independent. It should pursue facts wherever they lead and hold the powerful accountable.
It should never be treated as a personal legal defense team for a president. Yet that's exactly what Trump is trying to create.
A new Attorney General won't stop our fight for transparency. It won't stop our oversight work. And it won't stop us from demanding answers.
But we need to show just how many Americans are paying attention. If you agree that the Attorney General should work for the American people — not Donald Trump — add your name today and demand Todd Blanche’s immediate removal. >>
Thank you,
Robert Garcia
Add your name: Fire Todd Blanche

One of the first Constitutional Amendments we need is one overtly stating that a sitting President can be indicted and if for a felony, must step aside until adjudicated. If convicted he is automatically removed. And no one already convicted of a felony, even if overturned, can ever hold any public office. Edit: changed never to ever. Never was a double negative.
The current nincompoop should never, ever have been elected in the first place... I believe 2016 and 2024 were 'rigged' in his favor, corrupted by nefarious and wealthy silent operatives in the background. The REAL deep state.
Thank you for mentioning the Obama Center, Scott! I listened to Michelle and Barack on YouTube, and was so moved by their intelligence, eloquence, poise, and grace. It's about time that these qualities will again be recognized as belonging to the voice of the U.S., instead of malice and gibberish.
🚨 TAKE ACTION: The nation's top law enforcement officer should not be the Trump's personal criminal defense attorney. It's a massive conflict of interest. Tell your Senators to vote NO on Todd Blanche. Click and send: 👇 https://actionnetwork.org/letters/tell-your-senators-oppose-todd-blanche-for-attorney-general/

Happy Father's Day to all the dads & father figures out there.
My dad died 13 years ago, but there is never a day that I don't think of him. I was very lucky to have him for as long as I did.
Glad to see some good news emerging through the insanity.
Thanks Scott.
Thanks for sharing Carol! Sorry for your loss
Thank you, Scott. I was 68, Dad was 92! He lived a long, good, productive life. ❤️

Where have all the good men gone?
It’s been a heavy stretch, but this one gave me a little breathing room.
Small wins still matter. They add up.

He lost as Trump’s lawyer, why would he suddenly “become competent” as attorney general??

Absolutely, Stephen!
It's all good, of course, but that ocean sensor thing was the most important in my book. Removing them would have killed a lot of people.
It really would Charles!
Thank you for the good news, Scott. And, happy Father’s Day to most!
Thanks Linda!
