Done yesterday

Mary Jo's avatar

Yes, absolutely.

Pam's avatar

It gave me chills to read about the Carter and Ford families working together. This is the America I want to live in.

Scott Dworkin's avatar

Same here Pam!

Julie's avatar

I believe this kind of cooperation should be a given, not the exception, in this country.

Teri Gelini's avatar

Agree felt the same

Carlye Hooten's avatar

Me too! I'm old enough to remember when elections were civilized affairs. We had disagreements, not existential battles. An interfering with a person's vote (directly, at least) was waaaaay out of bounds. (Even then, though, there was always an undercurrent of violence around the right to vote, it just went unrecognized.)

Petrena Wilbur's avatar

I am in happy tears that they are doing this for our country.

Lily's avatar

My thoughts exactly - I actually lived in that America, ...Oh the good ole days! Once upon a time, party's debated policies - Now this Cult and Democrats debate murder? FUCK GOP!

DevineMissM's avatar

Thank you Carter and Ford families. Where is the Bush family in all this? Dead silent, that’s where. IMO, silence = approval, or at least acceptance, so there ya go…..

Julie's avatar

I've been wondering why W has been silent. However, he did rebuke Trump on Presidents' Day this year: https://newrepublic.com/post/206630/george-w-bush-torches-trump-president-day-message

DevineMissM's avatar

Oh, I missed the rebuke. Thank you for sending a link!

Julie's avatar

My pleasure, DevineMissM. I think it didn't get the attention it deserved in the media because it's anti-Trump and so much of the media now buries negative Trump news.

DevineMissM's avatar

It’s a start, at least. I’d prefer something more direct/less subtle, but at the 10-year mark, at least he praised Washington’s stellar attributes! The anthesis of the Orange Menace.

Julie's avatar

Agree with everything you said here!

Ms Jonington's avatar

Is it weird that every time I hear about Pete Hegseth it’s in the context of him failing miserably?

Pam's avatar

Not weird for a criminal and incompetent man to fail at everything.

Dana Bennett's avatar

Trump just needed a “fellow criminal!!”

Robot Bender's avatar

A yes man. Whiskey Pete is in so far over his head that he can't even see the surface.

Andrea Tuthill 🇺🇸🏴🇮🇷🇨🇦's avatar

Well, he got a boatload of them, and many more willing to go along with anything and everything‼️‼️‼️😡😡😡

Judy Sherwood's avatar

Hegseth is incredibly incompetent and a danger to democracy, the whole world. I cannot imagine what those generals - reporting to hegseth - must be thinking, feeling, talking about. What a fluster-cluck. Hegseth has put the US at high risk.

Cindy Myers's avatar

I wonder why those generals are obeying orders for this illegal war. Some are in his orbit.

Susan M Wheeler's avatar

Kegbreath is such a phony wannabe tough guy bully just like Trump. All those trashy tattoos are just emblematic of how insecure, racist and misogynistic punk he really is.

Cheryl Johnson's avatar

I really liked the photo in Robert Hubbell's substack of a Bridge Brigade sign that labeled the war in Iran as "Operation Epic Fail" .

Kay-El's avatar

Congratulations to the VOA employees. It would be nice if corporate media produced journalism instead of propaganda.

Julie's avatar

Media should not be owned by billionaires

Karen Lee Arthmann's avatar

Maybe they can remember how to do that once the current nightmare ends, and it will.

BEpiper's avatar

I believe positivity always leads to more — and better outcomes. 💕

Robot Bender's avatar

Maybe I'll listen to them to see how it goes. I have a short wave radio.

Krikit's Songs's avatar

I wonder if using a VPN from somewhere else would let my phone access it..

Kay-El's avatar

You can and they also have a news website: https://www.voanews.com/

Kathy Davidson's avatar

The Carter and Ford families have shown that working together for the good of this country is not only necessary but productive! This country was never meant to be under the rule of one party or person. The left and right have worked together in the past and they need to get back to that again. For the good of everyone and of our democracy!

Sam Jones's avatar

I think to this day Kari Lake still has NO IDEA what the VOA does

Karen Lee Arthmann's avatar

She has no idea how anything works. She's just a trump puppet. All stuffing, no substance.

Susan M Wheeler's avatar

She’s just one more MarALago faced MAGAT

Teri Gelini's avatar

Great news and especially about the Ford and Carter centers standing up for free and fair elections!

NANCY Jambor's avatar

1. I just restacked an excerpt from your piece with a strong positive comment to further highlight this amazing development Excellent!

2. First question I borrow shamelessly from a Substack author who writes “everyone is entitled to my opinion” which takes a katana-sharp approach to absurdity in the news: Jeff T says a lifetime Pulitzer goes to the first journalist to ask DJT “what the F is wrong with you?!” So I want to know- from all them all - under oath. We can start with Hegseth, sure enough.

Joanne Rossmassler Fritz's avatar

I love Jeff Tiedrich’s column! And I continue to live in hope that some reporter will ask that question.

Margot's avatar

I am happy about Ford and Carter family's stepping up!

Al Bellenchia's avatar

So. Much. Failing.

And the continued descent into madness.

Julie's avatar

Scott, You are a master messenger of hope!

What do you think about the Carter and Ford families—once bitter rivals—working together to protect our elections? I am not surprised. I encourage people to read Jimmy Carter's autobiography, "A Full Life: Reflections at Ninety". In the book, he covers his relationship with President Ford and the election observation initiatives he created. He was a fascinating, honest, kind, and dedicated servant to justice and equality. A fact that I was not aware of was that President Carter started FEMA.

What question do you think the reporters who have been restored to the Pentagon press pool should ask Pete Hegseth first? Give a clear explanation, with substantiating evidence, why you started a war with Iran. Additionally, please update us on the investigations into the Venezuelan boat strikes that have killed over 100 people as well as where the oil tankers that were seized are currently and if the oil and tankers themselves have been auctioned off, please show us a record of where those proceeds went.

Scott Dworkin's avatar

Thank you Julie that means a lot!

Sandra Knight's avatar

Those are my questions and comments as well. Thank you for stating them so clearly!

Julie's avatar

Thanks, Sandra!

Carter and Ford Families, and their history of civilized camaderie in polittics and personal life? Letting the world know about it? It’s So heartening. It’s heartening to have Americans of legacy stature assert to 77,0000,000 million that the United States can function without threatening, dehumanizing and killing the rest of humanity. Not that the U.S. was perfect, or will be perfect. But now that more of us? have a better grasp of how U.S. government is designed to work, maybe we’ll get closer.

Barbara Neal's avatar

1. This harkens back to a time where people could be in different political parties, but can work together to find common ground and forge on together for the common good.

2. Isn't it about time you resigned?!!

Renee Goodman's avatar

Barbara, none of the MAGATS would ever resign! This November will take them down as long as WE THE PEOPLE stay and fight together to vote them out!!!!

Sam Jones's avatar

Doesn’t hurt to ask 🤣

BEpiper's avatar

This exactly!

Noreen Lassandrello's avatar

There are quite a few “retiring”.

Sally Lyberger's avatar

Please could some of learn the training they’re getting for our polling places? I live in North Carolina.

Carlye Hooten's avatar

Call AND write to your Governor, Attorney General and Secretary of State.

It's easy to find the phone numbers: enter your state name followed by "contact governor" in your search bar. What comes up is usually the page with all the top officials and their contact info.

It's easy and fast, and EVERY CALL IS LOGGED.

The pressure WORKS! Calling daily makes sure they can't just kick the can down the road, and if you encourage all your friends, you've started a real pressure campaign! Keep it up and stay safe!

NANCY Jambor's avatar

Please say more. What’s going on?

Carlye Hooten's avatar

Everyone is worried about potential violence at the polls this November. Please call your Governor, Attorney General and Secretary of State. They can pass laws that will prevent violence at the election WITHOUT going through State Congress. Please see above! Thanks ❤️💙

Susan M Wheeler's avatar

I just hope they don’t get ICE involved like they’re now going to do at the airports.

NANCY Jambor's avatar

I’m working on getting local elections staff to take seriously the issues I have observed. It’s surprising to me how hard this seems. I agree with Marc Elias who has outlined significant steps states should be taking to address all the election threats.

Patrick P's avatar

This corrupt administration fears journalists because honest reporting exposes the truth regarding Trump's illegal war.

Scott Dworkin's avatar

You got that right Patrick!

Wis's avatar

I have always loved Jimmy Carter and it seems his grandson has fallen close to the tree. Ford was kind of a dim bulb but he loved America and had enough of an open mind to develop a friendship with his former foe. May both these families succeed now!
