I am still shocked by the polling numbers. Only 55% disapprove!? How can 45% still approve?

This will get much worse when healthcare and Medicaid cuts start. Much worse. There’s still that swath of Americans who have no idea what’s in that bill.

Which won’t happen for another year…. Maybe two??

Unfortunately for the rest of us, the tariffs are going to crush the economy before then. Here’s hoping for a free & fair election in 2026!

While the actual cuts to Medicaid may take a while to kick in, we will certainly be feeling the impact of the Big Ugly Bill long before then.

Rural Hospitals were hanging by a thread BEFORE the passage of the bill and will start announcing closings or cutbacks in the services offered sooner rather than later. In many rural areas, the hospital is one of the largest employers, so unemployment will likely spike too:

https://www.klkntv.com/rural-southwest-nebraska-clinic-closes-blaming-expected-medicaid-cuts/

https://www.healthcaredive.com/news/rural-hospitals-at-risk-medicaid-cuts/750718/

Many people who get their Health insurance through the ACA marketplace will see their subsidies cut drastically for next year as the formula returns to it's pre-2020 "cliff" version. (This will show up in October when health insurers start sending out cost info about next year's plans). Basically, if your adjusted Gross Income (AGI) is just $1 over the threshold of 400% of the Federal Poverty Level, your tax credits to purchase health insurance go to zero. This article has a good explanation of this change: https://www.healthcaredive.com/news/rural-hospitals-at-risk-medicaid-cuts/750718/. Check out the chart showing the difference.

(Note that the enhance tax credits which will expire were part of Biden's Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) which is how they are referenced in this second post.)

Then there are the automatic cuts to Medicare:

Sadly, there's a good part of that 45% who still believe "President Trump will do something". They still don't understand that he's already *done it*, and that they are, in a word, screwed.

Give it a few more months & Donald’s disapproval number will be ninety nine-percent. The wealthiest one-percent will be the only people remaining who support Trump.

I just hope that we, the ninety-nine, will remain free enough to stage a major resistance that will take down this Trump authoritarian takeover of our country.

National strike, anyone? We can’t wait till it’s too late when we’re all in concentration camps or seeking asylum.

I have been concerned about Colbert losing his show for some time. Being that he has rightfully called out Trump for years, and the company owning CBS has capitulated, I figured it was only matter of time.

Trump and the Project 2025 a- holes want control of all media.

I'm quite sure the administration would like to get rid of Jimmy Kimmel as well. Hopefully ABC stays strong.

Colbert will be fine. He's intelligent and talented. He won't have the number 1 late night show anymore, but would imagine he'll have some options. Maybe he may return to Comedy Central.

Who knows? We may have a chance to read his Substack columns next year.

Wow, Scott! What an incredible experience and honor for you to meet and talk with John Lewis!

I have been ill, so could not attend the “Good Trouble” event in Jonesborough, TN last evening. However, a friend recorded it, so I was able to watch it. Democratic State Rep. Gloria Johnson attended. US Rep. Diane Harshbarger (R) was invited, but failed to respond. Organizers placed a chair for her on the stage, in the off-chance she showed up.

It was a decent turnout, and an interesting event. Organizers asked some folks to come “in character” as Handmaids, Suffragettes, and Colonial Revolutionaries. Many had a chance to speak their own stories as well as their characters’ stories.

One speaker told how, after having to push for cervical cancer treatment in the 2010s - because her care provider was worried it would affect her ability to have children - she has recently been denied pre-natal care because she is in a domestic partnership, thanks to laws passed by MAGA pols. A woman dressed as a Handmaid spoke of her own upbringing in a fundamentalist Christian household, who sees many of the repressive practices of that community being codified into law now. Powerful stuff.

The birthday card is titillating, especially the sign-off. And if this was a published book, why didn’t Trump sue the first time it appeared? The whole coverup around Epstein is frustrating…it’s not a national security issue, so why not release all the files? The Grand Jury documents are just the tip of the iceberg.

Whether or not Trump engaged in pedophilia, he was Epsteins friend for years and absolutely must have known about his pedophilia. MAGA draws the line on this (on paper as they say) and Trump crossed it. Don't let up on this!

We (50501 NC in this case with some Marshal add on support from Democracy Out Loud) were out in force on the 1841 NC Capitol steps and grounds last night. About 500. Then they marched 6x around the Capitol on the sidewalk. 50501 NC has a chant team to help lead such endeavours. Excellent. There is press but I have not yet looked for it this morning.
