Good on Chicago. I want local law enforcement standing up for us—and not for the overreaching, corrupt, federal forces that are led by a convicted felon that can't even pronounce the word "acetaminophen."

Has the country forgotten this is the same man who wondered/believed we could inject bleach into our bodies to kill Covid-19. The same weasel who was helicoptered to Walter Reed for the best MEDICAL SCIENCE based treatment for COVID during tRUMP 1.0 while they publicly downplayed its dangers and thousands died.

From NYT:

“Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show is returning to ABC on Tuesday night after a tense standoff from remarks he made about the Trump administration’s response to the killing of the conservative activist Charlie Kirk. But about a quarter of the ABC stations in the United States won’t be airing it.”

I tried to gift the article in this link:

If you can wade through the ads on this link, it appears (if you can believe the NY Post) that not all stations will be airing Jimmy's return: https://nypost.com/2025/09/23/media/these-are-the-sinclair-owned-abc-stations-that-wont-air-jimmy-kimmels-return/

Sinclair will not air Jimmy. And another group I can’t remember. I have been told their stations are mostly in the south.

Scott, we have proved that putting pressure on a media entity by threatening its bottom line is very effective. Why can’t that same technique be used on Sinclair Broadcasting? They own other businesses which can be boycotted as well as the companies that advertise on their broadcasts. It seems a financial boycott is an effective way to minimize the danger done by these subversive regimes.

Brenda, I agree with you 100%. I believe Disney lost so much money which is why they brought Jimmy Kimmel back!

some folks on other comment sections of other columnists have compiled list of advertisers on suspect stations and shows. So my suggestion is keep reading comments from as many subs as you subscribe to or who will let you read their comments. And start your own list. I don’t know of any overall list, and another person on another column comment section expressed frustration that it couldn’t be searched for on line.

👍🏼Yes! Have to admit, I selfishly rushed to see if Jimmy Kimmel is scheduled to record tonight after reading not all ABC stations are broadcasting his show. Big sigh of relief to see him scheduled altho doesn’t show as “new” show despite station being ABC/Disney owned…🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

You made me curious about what else Sinclair owns. Here is an article I found:

https://legalunitedstates.com/what-does-sinclair-broadcast-group-own/

Expand full comment
debra's avatar

Key facts about Sinclair's station ownership:

A major player: Sinclair is one of the largest television station operators in the U.S., second only to Nexstar Media Group in the number of local stations.

Diverse affiliations: The company's portfolio includes stations affiliated with all major broadcast networks, including ABC, CBS, Fox, and NBC.

Vast reach: Its stations operate in numerous markets nationwide, covering about 40% of U.S. households.

Affiliated licensees: In addition to fully owned stations, Sinclair also operates stations for affiliated companies through local marketing agreements. These partners have included Cunningham Broadcasting, Deerfield Media, and Howard Stirk Holdings (from a "deep dive" in AI on Google).

GeorgeC's avatar

Both Sinclair and Nexstar are illegal monopolies that got waivers during previous GOP administrations allowing them to control more stations nation wide as well as multiple stations in a single market in direct violation of the law.

Nexstar is now trying to buy even more, so they are sucking up to the Cheetolini administration (and likely pumping massive bribes his way as well).

Wow!

So if Sinclair owns ABC will Kimmel air on ABC? If not then where?

Expand full comment
Cheryl Johnson's avatar

Sinclair owns ABC-affiliated stations, they don't own ABC (Disney does). If your local ABC station is one of Sinclair's stations then you won't be able to see it on your TV. You may be able to get in online as it airs. You should be able to find it online after the fact.

Thanks, I'm really wondering is how important is it that

Disney is airing Jimmy if the show is being stifled at the local level anyway?

Like did all the protest really do a lot? Or is rump still being caved to?

I’m 💯% in favor of Chicago Mayor Johnson’s executive order on “Right to Protest.” It is so important to have the local police safeguarding those American citizens who are protesting.

From experience, I have witnessed the “haters” use their vehicles to spray us with exhaust clouds as they pass us on the street, and I also saw a golf ball thrown at one of us. There must be police surveillance to protect our rights and to keep us safe.

Some overly agressive rent-a-cop security guards tried to claim the sidewalks on the periphery of a shopping center were private property and we weren't allowed to protest there over the summer. They threatened to call the cops if we didn't leave. They were very frustrated when none of us were intimidated and told them to go ahead. We would leave if the cops told us we had to, but we were all confident that they were wrong about sidewalks along the streets belonging to the shopping center.

The cops eventually showed up and confirmed we had the legal right to be there. Of course I live in a "blue" city - your mileage may vary if your town is controlled by MAGA.

Great news about Jimmy I am looking forward to watch him tonight. I am glad Trump got a taste of his own medicine for once thanks to American people including myself boycott Disney and I have canceled my Disney plus package. I never going back to it. Thank to all of us for standing up for principals. Things going to get better going forward this just the beginning of the end of Donald Trump.

Thank you Chicago Mayor for standing up for Democracy. I live in California and our Governor, Gavin Newsome, has been very proactive in protecting us from the chaos and madness of this federal government. I know the Governor for Chicago has also aggressively represented his state. I love that the power of the people is holding strong and also love the reporting by Substack. Blessings!

Thank you for the good news report, Scott. I won't reiterate many of the excellent comments below. However, I would like to note that the one thing that gives me great hope is the amazing ingenuity of the American people in their resistance, and the examples you noted in today's report underscore that point. I also believe that when a leader (Gov. Pritzker for example) sets the tone of standing up to bullies like Trump, it enables others to also come forward as evidenced by Mayor Johnson. Let's keep it up, my fellow citizens! It's working!

NOPE is a fabulous acronym for a fabulous Act (that we should not need in the first place). That it is to protect U.S. citizens from their own president is mind blowing but the fact is, we do need it.

I never thought I would personally fear my own country’s president. It is surreal to know for a fact that he hates me without knowing a thing about me except that I’m a loud, angry democrat who protests, sends letters, donates to causes and candidates and marches. Dissent is patriotic, as the ACLU proudly states; political canceling and silencing dissenters is what’s subversive.
