Sent, but I'll bet I could write the answer I will receive from Nick Langworthy - who (or whose office) generally responds to these letters, and be quite accurate.

Yes my 3 GOP members of Congress have made it very clear they're on the side of ICE. I get something like this:'Those poor ICE agents are being attacked by protestors all the time. We have decided to introduce legislation to make it a felony to attack an ICE agent.'

Sounds about right, except Langworthy usually throws in an "it's all Biden's fault."

Well, Kimmel will land on his feet too, like Colbert. He's brilliant. But mainstream america seems to have collectively morphed into a single mind unable to understand what's going on, let alone be critical of it. Maga people being this way is not surprising (they seem to be permanently brainwashed). But all the other people - maybe they really don't care? Maybe they never learned history (so this is our doom, repeating it on a more dire scale)? Or, as I suspect, I don't think they know how serious the sh*t trump is doing is. Civics, political science, the Constitution: these are not topics well covered in our core curriculum anymore.

(Well, I guess we no longer *have* a core curriculum, now that trump's dismantling the Department of Education. Now, depending on the school, children will only learn the 10 commandments (and how to reconcile the president breaking a good number of them), and maybe the abc's.)

I sigh a lot lately.

Not everyone follows the news and politics like those of us here on Substack. Some people are too busy with their own lives and issues to pay attention to what is happening in the country and in the world.

Oh, of course, you're right. But some things he's done have to have seeped through to some of them - it's been a 7-month-long continuous sh*t show, some of which has been pretty public (I imagine firing thousands of scientists and experts from the govt., dismantling the DOE, bombing Iran over night... etc etc - one or two things have to have gotten through the busy-ness.) But I suppose people today, with technology and social media and careers and kids etc, can completely tune out? It just seems impossible to me.

But I'm not on social media, I don't watch mainstream TV and I admit to having a circle of friends who are concerned, too, and I've always been a political person (mainly due to the environment and civil rights). So I naturally tune in.

Sometimes I wish I could be apathetic! It'd be so relaxing! lol ;)

After Trump was elected, I stopped watching Colbert because I found nothing funny about Trump. But now I’m going to start again of course. Although I still don’t find anything about Trump funny I want to be supportive, I think Colbert has been absolutely right on about him. And he’s not afraid to keep going.

Colbert and other comedians are one of the ways I keep track of the machinations of the current regime (this time, and during the last infestation), because I found them to the point and sometimes more truthful than the "mainstream media."

To me, CBS cancelling Colbert is not a surprise considering the way things are going--but it is a big disappointment. But, as you and others are rightly pointing out, he certainly will not be silenced!! And I also have a suspicion that the tRump regime is going to start falling apart sooner than expected. Should the orange nero find himself out of office for some reason (cough/epstein; cough/ physical frailty), CBS may not need to kowtow to him anymore. Will JD Vance care so much? In the end, Colbert may be offered a new contract, and he can tell CBS to piss off if he wants to!
