A "Gangster state" is right... thank you Jamie Raskin. The G7 was off the charts... evidently he had quite an odor and took a snooze at the table. Some insiders are saying his staff is worried and trying to figure out how to "contain" him. I honestly dont think he'll make it another year. A girl can only hope. Vance will be a different problem, but....

I am afraid that Vance will be just as awful or may be even worse (if that is possible), I think a lot of people see that and this is why Mr. Trump has not yet been bumped off!

Expand full comment
Elena's avatar

I got back & forth over my thoughts on Vance as a threat. On the one hand he's proven to be totally awful & has obviously sold his soul & is happy to help enact the worst of this administration. On the other he doesn't command people the way tRump does. Even with all of tRump's mental decline he still has a legion of loyal followers who will happily flip flop with his demented brain. Vance doesn't have that. If Vance gets to be President then I think it will be an all out fight in the administration for power. Vance will be perceived as weak & cabinet members may take this as an opportunity to enact their own agendas, which are also probably awful, but it would be much more fractured & the infighting would become even more visible as there's no longer the idea of displeasing tRump to keep people somewhat in line. Maybe not, maybe Vance would be successful at consolidating power, but I think we could take on that fight if it comes.

Trump is the leader of this cult...maybe when he goes, the cult will begin to dissolve. I just dont know...but I do hope.

Expand full comment
Elena's avatar

That's my hope too! & I'd prefer to get to test that theory over having tRump remain. His mental decline seems to be getting harder & harder to cover & I don't see how he could last another year without them doing what they claim Biden did. I do see a scenario where his team recognizes that they are toast without tRump & continues to prop him up in order to continue to enact their own agendas. A Presidential Weekend at Bernie's if you will.

I don't think Mikey automatically becomes the VP. When Kennedy was assassinated, Johnson went 14 months without a VP before he and his new pick for VP Hubert Humphrey were inaugurated. After all Vance doesn't appear to be terribly useful or busy as VP, right? So I'm sure Vance could last until he picks a new VP. Johnson is third in line only if both Trump AND Vance were to be killed. (which is why the the VP never rides in the same plane as the Prez)

...but ultimately happy I didn't, especially after the shootings in Minnesota....

Quite aware that assassination isn't an ideal way of responding to nor preventing a political rival from becoming a national embarrassment that leads our international standing to sink to 'drunk uncle' status...

...but, with DJT, was merely waiting for it to occur.

Yes, President Bidens' state had become 'an issue', but at minimum the 'ship of state' behind him was a crew that could cope with continuing the American Voyage instead of making a rash detour for egos' sake and pulling a Titanic.

As a nation of some former sanity, we as citizens cannot let this travesty go on for much longer. Trump has decided and is working on picking a fight with CA and Gavin over immigration and the use of ICE as an covert 'icepick' on the undocumented....

I'm not as nimble and 'out 'n about' to confront masked strangers with what looks like a daylight kidnapping of someone going about their day.

Less so of a 'sweep' in a strawberry field of people trying to make a buck to get along for another day in an expensive country that seems to have turned against their mere existence....NIMBY-ish that most haven't ever experienced, nor likely will.

California is the 4th largest economy in the world.

Only a mental midget would think it a good idea to pick a fight with a neighbor.

Especially with the one that has the parking space next to yours....

(...a stretch of analogy, but we've all likely been confronted with similar, if only with a 'Karen' with an axe to grind on your face....)

On a daily basis, I suspect individually we all prefer to avoid these kerfufluffles....

On a political level, it lowers us all to children arguing over a cookie.

True, Susan! He’s a MONUMENTAL disaster with each passing day… To “contain” him is nearly impossible for his staff. One day he’s rolling back on ICE direction, then Stephen Miller puts the orders back in place. I believe it’s a matter of time for the 25th to be enacted. Vance will also be a disaster for the US & world, but the difference is that he has NO cult-like following, or little following if any at all.. We’ll see.

Agree on the cult following for sure. Vance has ZERO charisma. He wont be able to enthrall these sick people like the felon has.

Exactly my thoughts. T has a history and eco system propping him up in addition to his weird charisma that can't be replicated. I think if he goes, there might be a massive hissing sound of the air deflating the blimp that is maga. Those left in his wake in government have no cult followers or too few to BS their way through things the way he does.

If I understand the Amendment correctly, Vance and the majority of the department heads or some other group established by Congress would have enact it to force trump out. Trump stacked his Department heads with wealthy, lick spittle donors (his oligarchs); and Vance has zero charisma, so the first option is unlikely to fly. Congress is controlled by repubs, so the second option won't happen anytime soon. Unless God the Almighty has a vote in the matter, we're stuck.

Trump’s handlers had to get him away from mics and also in close proximity to anyone with a healthy olfactory system.

Why is this glossed over? He is a doddering fool who can only memorize talking points fed to him from BFF Putin. A traitor, in addition to the absurdly long list of transgressions and character (?) flaws (?) deficits (most accurate).

He is incapable of making any decisions, let alone concerning foreign policy. Or war. We have no grown ups or anyone with experience and intelligence to cover up for him, so this situation is frightening.

His fixation on Putin is still confounding. Does he fear him as much as admire him, and if so, why?? He is embarrassing, he appears easy to manipulate with praise, and if it weren’t for our economic power, he’d be laughed at. I can’t figure it out!

There is so much to look at. Who can keep up? Keeping the pedal to the metal is advisable. Keeping the focus on meaningful results is advisable. We cannot resort to violence as they do.
