"Professor" Maddow was the FIRST to expose the Felon's house flip (that ended his affair--oops I mean friendship--with Epstein) to a Russian Oligarch/FSB operative. She also was the first to expose the Fake Electors scheme after the 2020 election. She's been on Fat Orange's trail and calling it like it is for a decade now. She and Lawrence O'Donnell are fearless.

⬆️"I wonder if we could get a massive rally in Washington, D.C."

Do you live in the DC area? I personally wouldn't drive a long distance to attend a protest. Corporate media is doing a crappy job of reporting on the massive protests. In addition, they tend to shut down the streets for those big marches, so usually the only people who see them are the ones who are already participating!

Personally, I think you get more "bang for your buck" participating in smaller local rallies if the big protest isn't local. It is easier to convince someone to come with you, and a lot more people will actually see the protest - especially the pop-up style where everyone holds signs at busy intersections. Plus, local media is doing a better job on reporting on these protests than national media.

As I mentioned above, our local Indivisible group leveraged our already exisiting structure for pop-up protests and hosted 20+ separate events (including a midday press coference) for "Good Trouble Lives On". Per the latest Indivisible newlsetter, we got press from the Charlotte Observer, QCity Metro, the local NBC affiliate on the local nightly news broadcast and their online version. The organizers estimate we had over 600 participants and visibility with over 120,000 motorists. That is nothing to sneeze at!

This past Saturday, our regular pop-up and a separate "Tesla Takedown" were co-branded "Rage Against the Regime" and drew in some new people who were previously unaware of our ongoing protests. FYI, Saturday marked our 20th "Tesla Takedown" for the year.

They list all the protests - not just the big national protests. You might find a protest near you sooner than Labor Day. My local Indivisible chapter is hosting 15 - 20 "pop-up" protests per week! For "Good Trouble" day (7/17) there were 20+ protests all on that Thursday!

Are you a member of a local Indivisible chapter? It is a grea way to find like-minded people! Find your nearest group here: https://indivisible.org/groups

What is the brand name for these protests? As usual Dems can’t organize under one recognizable banner. Everyone pitches their own tent.

Strength in numbers, people!!

Cheryl Johnson's avatar

⬆️Everyone pitches their own tent.

That's because the Democratic Grassroots IS a big tent coalition and it's non-hierarchical. No one is forcing everybody else to conform to one narrow message. IMO that is a feature NOT a bug of activism as you apparently think.

I do think the ELECTED Democrats do need to get their messaging better aligned, but what does it matter what the organizers call the protest they are organizing?

The important thing is the effort they are expending organizing it! Do you also want to regulate which signs that protesters can carry? Now that would really feed into the MAGA narrative that we are all paid protesters!

I am honestly surprised (and I admit disappointed) at just how many people are posting about it being done WRONG and that ALL future protests MUST be labeled <fill in the blank with your own preference>. Especially since I have noticed that these same people rarely (if ever) post about what they are doing themselves to advance the fight against authoritarianism.

I'd much rather hear about someone who goes out and stands on a street corner with a sign in a solo protest or with a small group of friends.

Yesterday also produced my favorite meme of the year so far, "Diddler on the Roof."

I saw it in several different places by several different people.

Some people wanted him to jump, but I reminded them that he would have merely formed a toxic puddle of whatever material he was made from, and his head would have continued blathering his nonsense from the resulting mountain of goo like in a bad SCI-FI movie.

What is needed is millions on the streets of Washington DC nothing less.

I'd be happy with hundreds of people in the street at thousands of different locations acrosss the country. One huge rally still won't get the coverage it deserves from the corporate media. Just look at No Kings Day - I saw lots of articles citing "hundreds of people" when it was clear the event was much larger.

Plus, everyday people protesting in the streets of their home town will reach far more people IMO and it distributes the burden of organizing amongst more people. Burn out is real.

Rachel Maddow always fact-checks herself before she speaks, so anyone suing her is on a fool's errand. But Nunes has long been a fool, anyway. Maddow seems fearless, I have admired her since Air America days ("monkey!") and I count on her and other fearless reporters to help us through the coming storms.

Rachel Maddow has a doctoral degree in political science. I'd say that gives her huge credibility on the topic of authoritarianism. She is absolutely right about the U.S. now being under authoritarian power. Clearly, most Americans aren't happy about it. How great would it have been if the majority and those who did not vote had believed the warnings ahead of November 2024. . . But here we are.

Grateful for daily good news, Scott.
